I'm hoping there's someone out there who can help me, i've been doing some research trying to fathom out the appropriate head unit (multi media/nav) to replace the outdated factory fitted PCM2 with Bose speakers.
I,ve decided to go with the Alpine INE-W710D, apparently it is compatible with the 2005 987, is there anyone here who can confirm.

Thanks in advance,

Rosewood Red

Any double-din HU can will fit the 9x7 with the appropriate fascia and wiring adaptors. Some cars can be more entailed than others in the wiring department (at least in the 9x6 cars - if you had specified one of the sound upgrades that used optical harnesses, etc), but it's all doable.

Any pictures of the car? smile

The Alpine will be fine, but as mentioned above, you'll need an adaptor if you are going to keep the Bose amp/speakers. I used this one:

http://www.connects2.co.uk/Product/ProductItem/CTS...

I'm not sure why it is called a 'Steering Wheel Control Interface', because although it does allow you to use the steering wheel controls, it's main function is to adapt the output of the aftermarket HU into the input required by the Bose amp.

There are a few threads on here about the process, and one where someone went the other route of removing the Bose system altogether and replacing with better quality amps and speakers. That is a lot more hassle, time and money, but I am sure the quality is amazing.

I installed a Pioneer unit in my car a few years ago and retained the Bose system by using the adaptor above. I am still delighted with it. The usability of music, phone and nav is miles ahead of the PCM2, and it even seems to sound a bit better as well.
