Anyone had dealings with these two company’s? Both have a 997 turbo I’m interested in and I know rsj seem to have a good reputation but the one at cridfords seems marginally a better deal so I’m interested in what people think of cridfords?

I went to RSJ and found it a strange experience. Cars polished exceptionally well. Nearly all 997's. Little interest from sales staff. When I enquired about trade in value Joel took contact details but didn't work to sell to me. About a week later he phoned me a couple of times. I think the cars are OK but the experience different!

I had a similar experience with Cridfords. But that was something like 15 years ago. Perhaps they’ve improved? I wouldn’t know; that experience meant I’ll never go back to them.

Only RSJ - who bought a 997 C2S Gen 2 off me - they were very thorough in their inspection - checking over revs & operating hours etc. Would have thought their cars are well screened & should be a good buy. However, i nearly went down to see them to buy a 997 turbo & had to plead with them for a test drive. I'am in my 50's lol, so not exactly a 'boy racer'. In the end i bought the turbo from JZM.

I bought from RSJ. They are an excellent dealer imo, I still use them six years later for servicing etc. There is absolutely no pressure to buy at all - they are so laid back they are almost horizontal, which for me was perfect, I can't abide smothering salesmen.

The level of preparation that goes into a car prior to collection is first class, my car literally looked brand new despite being nine years old at the time.

As you can probably guess, I'm very happy to have bought from them and would recommend them highly.

Good luck with your turbo quest.

Yes they seem very laid back which suits me fine, but as mentioned they will not do test drives and having never owned a 911 this can be tricky for me as like most people you want to get a feel for the car, I don’t doubt their cars are of very high quality but just wondered how cridfords might compare. Manual turbo’s are thin on the ground !

The no test drive thing is ridiculous. OP, give RPM Technik a call. If they don't have one in stock they will know of cars and they do give test drives.

Was thinking of giving them rpm a call as only down the road from me but don’t want to waste a dealers time if I’m not interested in their particular cars

I popped in there years ago unannounced looking for an early 996 to mess about with and they had just taken one in - which I then bought before it was advertised.

Always worth making a connection I think.

I bought my 996 turbo from RSJ, althought I did test drive beforehand.

They're preparation is very good. I also used them for servicing whilst working over that way, but now use Jaz for servicing since they relocated to St.Albans.

I'd definately recommend them.

We are spoilt for Porsche Indies in this area:

Sales: 911 Virgin, JZM, RSJ, RPM Technik and Portiacraft

Service: Jaz, JZM, RPM Technik and RSJ

Different experiences for different budgets, but if they have the right car or can fit you in for work that's all that matters.

Crifords seem to have poor stock and unintrested in selling cars vs the main ones and RSJ only seem to have 911 PDK cars now days and will not let you test drive them, odd model, but there you go, RSJ have better back up and seem very good about any support you need if you have a fault.

but they seem to have focused on older PDK 911's so I tend to never visit the site these days.

To be fair it will be difficult to explore the limits of a 911 around the streets of Slough, though point taken on the manual. As others have said might be worth going down there. RSJ's prep is very high, evident by the stuff in the showroom & understanding that test drive likely results in having to re-prep the car again. The 'no test drive' doesn't seem to be unique to them though - OPC were reluctant to let a friend test drive a used Cayman GTS.

Bought my Cayman from RSJ & was very happy with the service inc post sale & subsequently used them for work. They've won a lot of customer service awards from Porsche awards.

Admittedly it was quite a few years ago now (~8) but I viewed a 996 turbo at Cridfords and was very unimpressed by the sales technique. I bought elsewhere.

There have been similar threads a few times since then, and I've very rarely seen positive comments about them - mostly, people seem as unimpressed as I was. (I know there is one positive comment in this thread).

First time posting on here but saw the question regarding RSJ and wanted to respond. I bought a 997.1 C4S from them last year, had it for a couple of months and then saw a 997.2 turbo cab for sale on their website. I’d had such a great experience with them buying the first car I happily bought the turbo over the phone. Their cars are specced to an extremely high standard and their warranty is relatively good. Yes, their sales approach is laid back but I’d rather that than have a salesman breathing down my neck the whole time.

RSJ, bought my car from them. Exceptionally prepared - it basically looked like a new car. Service was excellent, so I would have no hesitation in recommending them.

My mate has also just bought from them, he too reckoned they were excellent.

Bought a cayman from RSJ in, I think, 2011 or 2012. No test drive came back to bite me - I was like a kid in a candy shop so i didn't even look at the car much - rear wheels had different tyres on them, and one of the fronts was buckled. To be fair, RSJ rectified all issues FOC and supplied me with a loaner Mini for the time they had the car. It was a pain since they are 100 miles from me. The in-house warranty was nice, even though i never had to use it, thankfully. They lowballed me on my honda civic but again i couldn't be arsed at the time to sell it privately.

I *think* i'd buy from them again, however they seem to have a fixed criteria for the cars they buy; (have to have navigation - useless in Porsches anyway, have to have big wheels etc). They should definitely arrange test drives, but i can see why they don't due to location.

I have dealt with RSJ, and can vouch for how thorough they are in sourcing stock, and in prepping them for sale. I understand the no test drive policy, and I admire it, but can understand how it may frustrate others.
