Collection delayed
Discussion
Hi all - I was due to ‘join the club’ tomorrow and collect my first Porsche from the dealer, but was told this afternoon that it wouldn’t be ready and they’ve pushed back the collection date till next week.
Annoying and means I need to rejig things (extend insurance on my P/X etc) but not the end of the world. Just wondering if anyone else has had this happen to them? Any freebies to say sorry?
Cheers

No my first thought was “it’s a bit of a shame” as I’ve been saving up for a couple of years and I was looking forward to finally being in the car, but like I say only annoying really, another few days won’t kill me or anyone else.
Only mention freebies as it’s not uncommon to get something nice when you pick up a new car anyway, was quite looking forward to finally getting that key ring!
Must be a bit of a snowflake as it’s my first post and I was thinking I might get some more encouraging posts like “welcome to the club, what did you go for?” or “same thing happened to me, don’t worry was only a few days”.
Expectations adjusted accordingly. Thanks for the “welcome”.

Have they said why the delay? Sounds a bit suspect assuming you know for sure that it’s at the dealership?
What model is it that you have gone for? GT2RS that they have decided to hold on to as a demo car perhaps? or have they realised your car is missing an option that they are trying to retrofit?
The devil is in the detail...... but I would definitely be asking them questions and pushing for a freebie or two.
By the way..... welcome to the club!

A two post history and number two is a flounce.
Snowflake indeed!
Bit hormonal? Does that explain the picture of a ladies car in your profile? Snowflake indeed!

Give the guy a break, I know it’s fashionable (rightly) on PH to bash excessive ‘compo culture’, but the OP asked a legitimate question about the delay and there has been talk of handovers being cancelled due to some sort of software update required on new cars. That may be nothing to do with it but I’d be pretty pissed off if I was only given one day notice.
OP: welcome and hopefully you’ll enjoy the car when you get it! As you’ll know Porsche are hardly ‘generous’ but full tank is usual, maybe a bunch of flowers and, in my experience, some sort of tat turns up in the post weeks afterwards (espresso coffee cups, a ‘totem’ paperweight etc.). Express your disappointment, expect nothing and maybe you’ll get an umbrella. Console yourself with the fact that whilst it’s worth about a fiver they probably charge about 50 quid retail!
OP...I believe OPC’s are flat out at the moment because of the amount of cars coming through pre factory shut down. My car arrived a couple weeks ago and took an extra couple f days to be PDI’d. My OPC is currently booking carsinto service for July because they’re flat out.
Don’t let it spoil the experience!

Hi 👋
Firstly good on you for buying your dream car, if it’s taken a while having just in time for the bank holiday weekend isn’t bad timing really.
The delivery date on mine bounced around, they confirmed then put it back then rang to say ooo it’s just arrived which meant I needed flexibility from the chap putting on the paint coating. I am delighted with the car and it’s all long forgotten now.
Tell us what you bought and if it’s at the dealership get them to send you some photos and post a few.
Congrats

Thanks all, appreciate the comments. Not looking for compo, was just interested in others’ experience. Wouldn’t turn down a free set of car mats or whatever!
Think the delay is only because they’re backed up, no issues in waiting a week. I’ve waited this long so I can wait a bit longer. Actually the dealership has been very good and kept me up to date, so am really pleased with the experience, it’s not spoiling it for me.
Have gone for the new Cayman in Miami Blue, very excited to finally get into the dream car! May post a pic in the Cayman/Boxster forum just to introduce myself when I get it.
Cheers for the welcome, sorry if I came across a bit grumpy in earlier post.

I would ask to be able to see it. My first thought was that its in the body shop
I'm such a cynic, I had exactly the same thought! Doesn't take long to pdi and put plates on a car... Dealers are usually looking to get rid of cars ASAP as they take up space in the yard/building.
I'd pop down for a quick look if it were mine.

Congratulations, I picked up my 718 Cayman 5-6 weeks ago after previous 986 & 987 Boxters...love it...cant keep out of it and have put almost 3k miles on the clock already! Be careful in the Cayman/Boxter forum there are some militant 981 owners on there still clinging to the belief they have the better car

ds on PH. I bought a £12k used approved BMW years ago and it was delayed by a week in prep. I got a bottle of champagne, an umbrella and a full tank of fuel
