Noise on cold start up

Hello,
Trying to diagnose a mechanical issue by describing the noise it makes can sometimes be dodgy at best. Not because sound(s) isn't a relevant indicator, but because the sound one hears is often very subjective. Some may describe it as clunky, others as a rattle, etc.
In turn, these may indicate totally different issues. Does it happen only at start-up, at idle, in neutral? With engine cold/warm? What happens to the noise once the engine comes to operating temp, or when placed into gear, or the revs raised? Does it happen every time under the exact same conditions or is it intermittent? If you park in a different spot, does this have any effect? Parking brake on/off?
That having been said, I suspect that what you may be hearing is a heat shield rattling until things get warmed up enough to expand and tighten up.
If you work on the car yourself, get under it and look for the various heatshields (car cold) and try to see if there's any movement in any of them. Or if any have bent or shifted to where they are contacting other parts such as exhaust, block etc. Adjust as required.
If you don't perform your own work, stop worrying about it and bring it in to your service guy. Let him diagnose it, that is partly what you're paying him to do.

I also have a 2.5 boxster, 1997,has 330.000 km (+200.000miles) on the clock and yes I also had this hard cluncky noise at start up when cold. Takes a short while then it's gone. When servicing (at an OPC) they managed to solve it.
PS car never let me down, will put another 100.000 on the clock and then it goes to RUF for a full transplant.
It seems that I have the highest mileage car in Belgium, maybe that puts me in line for a hughe discount an a new one
