Hi there my relatively new to me 997.2 GTS has recently started (intermittently) to have a small amount of smoke (mostly but not only) from the drivers twin exhaust pipe - not every time, not loads and not for long - didn’t notice it b4 now that I recall. The car has 31,000 miles on the clock and does about 50 miles a week - mostly short trips but always long enough to get the fluids up to temp and driven carefully until then (and after to be fair)

Anyone got any thoughts on what might be causing this / is it normal ?

Car is warrantied and as such I will call my OPC but I wanted a bit of info b4 I do so, to help me understand it a little better - thanks in advance.

Cheers smile

Have you put any oil in it recently? Checked the level?

Only had mine a couple of weeks and it doesn't do this.

(I am finding I need a good 10mls + before the temps even start to get into decent territory as an aside...).

Mine does it from time to time. When it first happened I was as concerned as you are but soon found out its one of those "they all do that".

Thanks - I mist admit that was my first though - but I think it’s odd that it has only just started doing it - I’ll check the oil levels - good shout. smile

Edited to add - oil level checked at full running temp & looks fine - full but fine ? smile

I think they all seem to do this from time to time in my experience. As long as it’s not every start then I think your OPC will tell you it’s a design feature but still worth asking them. I wonder if the short journeys are something to do with it as my journeys are similar.

My 991.2GT3 chuffs a massive cloud every now and then so even the new engines are not immune.

Used to make me sweat on my 2.9 987 Cayman and my 997GTS. Strangley makes me chuckle on the GT3. Joys of a new car with warranty.

And for some reason they only seem to do it when there is other people aroundto witness said haze.

It happened to me ... only once but it did take me by surprise.

Cayman R ... had a wonderful time at Spa and parked it up on a steep rearward slope. Started it the next morning, massive cloud of smoke that cleared in seconds, and I really thought that I had broken something.

It never happened again ... but it did make me sweat ...

My 997.2 GTS has only done this once....it had been parked “sideways” on a slope where the drivers side wheels were higher than the passenger side. Only time it’s ever done it.
