Hi all,

My 993tt has the hollow spoke turbo technology wheels (18", and i was wondering if anyone knows if these are lighter or heavier than the 18" Carrera 2002 wheels (you know, the 5 skinny spokes).

Anyone?

Pete,,,,I don't have the data to hand,,, but I am quite sure the Carrera 02 wheel is lighter,,,part of the reason why I NEED a set myself.. I am sure if you search on Rennlist they have comparisom weight tables on a few threads.

Paul,

Looking on rennlist i get conflicting reports from different threads.

I think the 02 wheels are lighter than the turbo look wheels (solid spoke), but about the same weight as the hollow spokes (some say a bit lighter, some say the hollow spokes are lighter).

No point changing purely for aesthetics, if my hollow spokes are pretty light anyway i am happy to stick with them.

Take a look at this excellent German website for most Porsche wheel weights and pictures from 1989 onwards:

http://www.944racing.de/felgengewichte.html">www.944racing.de/reload.php?urltogo=http://www.944racing.de/felgengewichte.html

I believe this site calls them 18" Carrera (BBS) versus the Turbo I (Hohlspeiche)which puts the Turbo ones as lighter.

Interestingly it also has some tyre weights too. I wish tyre manufacturers would print this on their websites

Assuming this site linky is correct, the skinny spoke Carreras are a little bit heavier than the 'proper' hollow-spoke Turbo wheels as fitted to the 993 TT. Still light for 18s though!

I was looking at this myself, and given I appear to have the lightest non-mag 17" wheels already, I'll stick to them... After all bigger wheels are pretty much guaranteed to be heavier unless you're using exotic alloys.

diver and cyber,

thanks very much!

good site, and good news. I can save my money for my harness guide bar and 6 pointers, along with my muffler bypasses (which should be here any day now).

when i do the muffler bypasses i'll ditch the spare, compressor, tools, and front carpet (but keep the strut brace).

thanks chaps!

Yes - I understand they're custom made for Manthey (and to their spec.) by BBS.
