Macan v Panamera - weight

Perhaps an odd statistic to trip over, but I was amazed how heavy the Macan is (2,000kg), so heavier than the far larger Panamera. Taking the V8 Panamera with four wheel drive, it is still lighter than the current Macan. I am surprised the weight of the Macan has not featured more significantly in the press.

They are designed to give something different, something that many seem to want.
Personally, I would have a Panamera over a Macan but with a Cayenne in the fleet fully appreciate why these are wildly popular.
The bog standard Macan is a pretty ordinary but well built car. Totally transformed with the.rights chassis tech/spec and engine. I’ve had a Turbo PP for a couple of months....it’s an absolutely superb daily driver. Ticks a lot of boxes.
I love the Panamera, had the OPC’s demo car for a day thought it was superb. Biggest issue with it is it’s sodding massive so things like car parks can be a problem and. The boot isn’t that big given the size of it.

I have a new Panamera Sport Turismo plus a Previous gen Cayenne S-E Hybrid and the Panamera feels bigger to drive..However thats my wrong perception as after checking the Porsche website the Panamera is actually 36mm narrower than the new gen Cayenne.I'll take the Panny over a Macan or a Cayenne, every time.
I'm not keen on the Macan as i feel its extremely cramped in the back compared to the Cayenne and would never consider one.I have a new Cayenne on order but might cancel as i love my Panamera ST..The build quality of he Panamera is superb and definitely a notch above the new gen Cayenne and equals my existing Cayenne.
I love how upmarket the door hinges work on the Panamera especially compared to the new Cayenne's cheaper feeling conventional hinges.The only unique 'must have' for me feature on the Cayenne is the full fat 3.5T towing capacity which i need occasionally otherwise i'd just have an ST..
I'm on my second Macan (GTS) and there is something deeply satisfying about being able to drive something so heavy and tall so quickly. Yes it would be easier to drive a fast estate but where's the challenge in that. We had a new Panamera on loan as was thinking of getting one and while it is a fantastic car it felt huge and heavy compared to the Macan so number 3 will be with us sometime late next year. Horses for courses I guess.

I've just gone from a BMW 6 GC to a New Cayenne. The Mrs is far far more comfortable/confident driving the Cayenne. The Cayenne may be a bit wider, but the higher seating position and sight lines more then compensate.I'll take the Panny over a Macan or a Cayenne, every time.
The Panamera/6 GC are both better drives and the low down forward focussed driving position accentuates that. But low slung cars of that style can be challenging in narrow tight city roads and in many car parks.
If it wasn't for my growing family and back complaining (about loading/unloading kids paraphernalia in low slung cars) I wouldn't be in an SUV. But try one for a month and you'll soon see SUV's have a very valid USP.
