991.2c4 gts - not as good as I thought
Discussion
Bought a 991.2 c4 gts recently. Hadn't done a test drive, just relied on amazing reviews. Mistake. Yes it's a good car but I think it's too good / not great and lacking involvement. It's great if you're "on it" but day to day I'm finding it boring. It's actually quite laggy (3rd gear, 40, floor it, nothing happens). I'm only 2k miles in. My old 996 turbo is more involving and has more feel, more shove. Anyone else finding the latest Porsches a tiny bit dull? I might bite the (expensive) bullet and move it on. Going to try a 991.2 turbo s (probably more shove but less noise?-grateful for views on noise / involvement). I know this sounds like a pathetic moan but having gone from 996 turbo to 991.2 c4 gts (at the cost of 4 or 5 996 turbos) I'm underwhelmed. I've kept my 996 TT but the boss says I can't have both. Trade both for turbo s, chip the gts (dms upgrade views please?), bin the gts and stay with 996 TT? Views appreciated. This is a weekend car not a daily. Have no sympathy, just views on the cars and way forward please - I know I'm an idiot for not testing all before making the purchase. Thanks.
Where do you drive it....and which gearbox does the GTS have ? I assume PDK.
Don't have PDK in my 911 but I find the PDK gearbox will for economy/emissions run in a high gear if you are just cruising at 40 mph. Maybe try using Sport mode if PDK or use the paddles and do the gear changing yourself.
GTS is a great car, especially if you need four seats. But like all modern Pork....spec makes a big difference to these cars. Personally I wouldn't go Turbo, you'll read a lot of thread on here about people fiding them a bit dull because they're too fast...you can't get anywhere near it's performance envelope on public roads. People that love Turbo's tend to love them because they use them as their "daily driver".

Porsche make the every day sporty daily, for me they are all dull unless GT models now days and you can even daily a GT car now no issue.
issue one is. once it's dull you chase speed, a common trap the GTR boys fall into, a week later you are used to the extra power and it's dull again !!!
hence litchfields have 23 levels of tune for the GTR to keep them happy and returning clients lol
if you want a fun week end car buy an Atom :-) if you want a roof buy a 410 Exige.
don't buy run of the mill stuff as a toy ! or trust DMS tunes.

Many thanks for some really helpful comments on here. I wanted to try 'modern' and I guess for me it's just not working out. Good points about 'dull means chase speed' - I got my first points for speeding in 15 years last week (81 in 70). It may well be a weekend toy not a daily but I wanted something that was good from the get go - at all speeds. For me it just doesn't fulfill the brief - naively I did hope 991.2 c4 gts with pdk would be fast, engaging at all speeds yet ok if I wanted to go somewhere with wife and junior. For me it falls short. I'll live with it a bit longer and am testing a turbo s (will post on that if anyone is interested - albeit I detect everyone has heard this story before). Thought about trying mclaren but those and fezzas are just too showy for me (and Nissan v8 in the mclaren doesn't make a great noise). Really appreciate the views - thx for taking the time. Good weekends all.

I had a 570S for the day, and I thought it was dull lol, it looks great, it's rocket ship fast, 2nd hand it's seems mega value, but go from a manual GT3 to a 570S and it just feels like the Golf of super cars. :-( ps it also had better steering feel than any modern Pork.Turbo S will offer you nothing extra bar lol speed for a few months, then it will just be a nice faster daily where you be finding yourself at 140mph speeds.
Don't get me wrong I would love a gen 2 turbo S as a daily :-) but not as my fun car..
You really need to get 2 cars and make them different so one always feels special/fun. and imo that means a manual, NA engine car.
I have a 991.2 GTS, but I went for 2wd and it’s a manual, it’s also a very skinny spec over standard.
This is a weekend car and comfortable enough to go some distance in and I can squeeze the kids in for local errands as well. I really like it, it’s fairly under the radar, comfy and blooming fast.
But it doesn’t demand a 100% of my attention and have my hair standing on end when I get out of it, if that is the buzz you are after then you may well have bought the wrong car and a more extreme one might fit the bill better.

I sold my 991.2 Turbo S, as others have said it's not a car for weekend fun, unless you are really on it, I didn't find it very engaging and when you are really on it you are doing speeds that have no place on public roads.... As a daily drive and for journeys with a purpose it's a great place to be but that was not what I brought mine for hence why I sold it. I have replaced it with a Carrera T for now and as a road car it's great fun and very involving at sensible speeds.911alltheway said:

Demon Are you some sort of magician of steering feel or something? The Paul Daniels of tramlining maybe?
You're forever banging on about how modern Porsches steering is s
t but not many other people seem to think so. Nevermind the countless millions of Euros that Porsche must have spent on development and product testing of steering systems - it would appear that your steering 'feel' renders all that null and void. Do you grip the steering wheelwith the fine downy hairs of your butt-crack or something? OR are you just perpetually talking s
t........?I have three Porsches, leaving aside the family Cayenne which has proved to be more entertaining than I expected the other two are a 991.1 GT3 Clubsport and a 2003 986S.
The GT3 is obviously a fantastic car to drive but its interesting how much fun the 986 is too, it gets let down on its composure due to the way in which suspension has evolved but there is something about it which still leaves a grin on my face driving it.
It is true that the modern cars are becoming a little sterile at times.

I have a mere 997.2 C4S and initially didn't touch the Sport/Sport Plus buttons. It felt a bit sedate tbh. Sport was better. Then I though what the hell and put Sport Plus on. Only use anything different now on long trips where 7th gear can come in handy. Otherwise it's Sport Plus, PASM off (need more compliant suspension on the roads I use) and exhaust on loud

OP - if you've not had a good play with these settings, do so. It might change your mind.
