PDLS LED Headlight part numbers - 991.1 GT3
Discussion
Morning all
I need a new headlight (stone damage )
£2500 from OPC.
its a 991.1 GT3, PDLS LED light (not black trim)
so, there is a S/H light listed on eBay at the moment. (taken from a 991 Turbo)
I was hovering over the buy it now button...but thought I'd just better check the part number of mine.
usual Porsche efficiency - removal method in manual, 2 mins and out she pops.
however...
the P/N on the headlight differs from that on the add.
OK you say, so its a different light.
but the spec is identical (L/H LED, PDLS, not Black trim )
my part number 991.631.173.03 (05-11-13)
add part number 991.631.273.01 (20-10-14)
I've trawled the PETs and the online parts lists and cannot find any reference at all to my light !
short of calling up an OPC parts department (who would probably tell me F all) I'm at a loss as to how find the part numbers & make sure the eBay part will work
suggestions?

Strange one... Like you, I cannot find reference to the #173 but there are plenty of references to suggest that #273 should be the right fitment for a pre-2015 car.
Suggest you just call your local OPC; if you give them your VIN they'll tell you the exact part that you need (the V-pages and PETS that are vailable onine for 991 generation cars are a bit patchy, I find).
Good luck!

Actually, Red997, I'm just wondering whether the part number you've seen on the unit you've removed from the car is for the lamp component only (the main component in the full lamp assembly) which maybe you can't buy separately, only as part of the entire lamp assembly, under an assy part number, as you've spotted on eBay?

I'm not sure, but maybe this could explain things...?

It's just strange that we can't find any reference to your part number at all...
I'd be careful about the LHD unit - it seems to have not worked for the eBay seller and unless you know the difference between RHD and LHD units I'd say it should be treated with caution. Hard to think what the difference could be (both are adjustable for driving on RH and LH of the road, I assume) and it might even be something that could be coded to be OK but that might be a long and costly road...
Have you tried any of the high-end beakers or dismantlers? Prestige Salvage in Leeds could be a place to start, or Charles Trent (they had an RS they were parting out so definitely worth a try). You can source parts directly before they are visible on eBay and related sites.
James
Edited to say: ahh - I see what you mean. The eBay unit came originally from a RHD car but the chap who is selling it now was unsuccesful in fitting it to a LHD car. That sounds more promising. I'm assuming your existing unit has mainly cosmetic damage (lens?) so, in the worst case, maybe you can rehouse your existing innards into the new (eBay) shell?

correctomundo!
yes, its purely cosmetic damage - small section of the lower 'edge' has broken off
seal is still intact, so no functional issues, it's just cosmetic.
I'm still trying to get 100% confirmation that the light will work (either straight off, or via coding) in my car.
£750 is still a lot of ££ to pay, especially if it doesn't work

From memory the LED lights on (early versions of?) the 991.1 GT3 has restricted functionality compared to the normal PDSL lights. I’m not sure if that was simply due to a lack of sensors in the windscreen (for the high beam assist etc), or whether the units thenselves were actually different.
This might help to explain the issue?

Numbers on parts are very often incorrect
There is no such part 991.631.173.03 there is 991.631.273.03 its for RHD LED headlights without dynamic corning
There is no such part 991.631.273.01 there is 991.631.271.03 its for LHD LED headlights without dynamic corning
Your VIN will select the correct part number

Good memoery and call Sidicks - I think this would indeed explain the difference between the GT3 and Turbo specs; at launch, it was expected that PDLS+ LEDs would provide the automatic low-beam / high-beam feature but the GT3 doesn't have this (because there's no forward looking/mirror mounted camera??). This might help to explain the issue?
Thinking about it, I doubt that coding alone will resolve this - because, if it could, there would be a common part number between GT3 and other vehicle types. The use of a different part number suggests to me that the non-auto low/high functionality isn't just a coding issue...
Do let us know what you find!

May not be relevant but I recently replaced my rear light unit on a 997.1 after Mrs P decided I had parked the car in the wrong place for her Cayenne.
The part number on my light was not recognised but the OPC said that when they update or re-source a part they will change the part number. They said this happens even if they change supplier or the smallest design change.
There is, therefore, the possibility that yours is an out-dated part number which has simply been superceded by another. OPC should know.
Good luck.

No, just a wrong number, the old numbers would still be picked up in PETThe part number on my light was not recognised but the OPC said that when they update or re-source a part they will change the part number. They said this happens even if they change supplier or the smallest design change.
