Discussion
Hello all. I would love to here your views. I have a budget of 35-40k for a 911. Having read lots and had some interesting conversations I am trying to make up my mind what to buy. My current thoughts are 964 turbo 2 or 993 turbo 4. LHD is ok with me, unles you know better. Is insurance any more expensive for LHD? I am put off 996 by reliability concerns. I fancy a turbo for the compromise of fun and comfort. I look forward to reading your advice. Any ideas as to where I can look in addition to Pistonheads would also be great to hear. Cheers.

Personally I'd say that the 993TT is the better car, although you'll struggle to find a RHD example with your budget. LHD should be well within your reach though. Regular contributor VerySideways has just bagged himself a lovely LHD 993TT - Maybe he'll chip in and tell you what he paid for it.
You need look no further than here for informed opinion by the way - The lads who post on here are a fountain of knowledge - honestly.

Edited to say - There's a nice LHD 993TT here - a fiver change from 40 grand:

Henry has a RHD one for 37/35K. I would guess the mileage is galactic, but even so ...
Edited to add, there is also a rather old ad on here for a yellow 3.6 T2, and I'm starting to form the view that yellow is the colour for a 911.

Not too up on my turbos, but I'm fairly sure that the 964 turbos don't suffer reliability issues like their normally aspirated siblings because the engine is completely different.
I have to say that as nice as the 993 turbo is, you're at the top end of your budget unless you do go LHD whereas with the 964 which IMHO is the nicer looking you could get an absolutely tip top RHD car for your money which, however much you're happy to have a LHD, has to be the better option.
I would suggest going on to the PCGB forum for really good advice on this kind of stuff and more info regarding which is actually the better car, VFM etc.

Morning all - je suis arrive!
I just bagged a 1998 (2 months before production ceased) 993TT - lhd, silver, black leather, and loaded with spec (12 way electric seats, both heated, comfort leather, climate, sunroof, xenons, etc.)
Very nice condition and with new brakes and tyres and a good history, 60k miles, £35k.
I had a look at Joel's car (the one you're seeing on Tuesday) and it's lovely, but i can't be having another black car. I'd have to wash it daily.
Henry's car looks very nice from the ad, but i've never known Henry to sell a cheap car so i can only assume the mileage is a touch higher... but don't ask him the mileage on the 'phone
Feel free to PM me if there are any specific questions you need to ask.
VS
Edit: p.s. the 964 turbo is a fantastic car but for one small problem - the injection system is sh*te. As a result the fuel consumption is frightening and the power is ON/OFF. But as a combination of classic 911 looks and modern 911 performance it's MAD!
