Autoglym metal polish - comes in a shiny tube. Good stuff.
Check at your local Halfrauds/Halfwits - they usually keep this stuff in stock.

and while we are on cleaning type stuff - anyone have and recomendations for getting rid of tar (I used WD40 last time which got it clean off, not sure it does much for the paintwork though)
Autoglym instant tar remover, it's awesome, great for scorched tyre marks after trackdays aswell !!!!

White spirits will remove the tar without damaging the paint but it will remove any polish.
I find WD40 great for cleaning the engine, better than Gunk or Auto Glym engine cleaner as it doesn't dry out the rubber and plastic so much.
This topic was visited on another forum recently. The top idea was to use CocaCola, the real thing, and not any diet versions. Take the tips off the car and stick them in a bucket of the stuff. Brings them up a treat apparently, and then polish them afterwards to protect the shine. Can't vouch for this myself though.
On a similar note, what's the best way to remove all the exhaust residue from the paintwork at the rear of the car? I wash it frequently but I still seem to get a build up of crud above and to the sides of the exhaust. I've tried autoglym tar remove on it and it doesn't really do much.
