Continuing my 911 education – considering late 993 v early 996: Does anyone have any experience/knowledge of what practical warrantee cover can be acquired/recommended that would provide ‘real’ cover on cars of this nature ie 96-99 model years and probably 50-70k type mileage. I appreciate the 996 engine failure scenario may be oversold given the nature of such forums but am still concerned on this risk and would consider paying for peace of mind if close to reasonable. Any experience on cover options + cost and reality of this cover would be appreciated. I can just hear that “normal wear and tear” comment now from Mr faceless insurance man .. I believe Porsche will take back into the fold such cars and provide good cover but costs likely to be £8-900 per annum and I guess hidden costs would be forced OPC servicing and maintenance uplift charges over independent.

Am hopefully realistic re expectations but again would be grateful for any feedback on typical – no big issue – running costs per annum. Low mileage say 4-6k pa. Any what is a bad year re respective models. What cost gearbox, engine replace, diff failure. I know they are v rare but shit happens sometimes and would like to have my eyes open on the way in…

Porsche warranty on my 993tt costs £725 per year. You don't have to get the car serviced at OPC to maintain warranty (since last year I think). It was an EU directive to stop anti-competitiveness from main dealers (OPC).
