951 engine - anyone got one spare???
Discussion
Bugger - got a compression test done on my engine ('86 220 bhp with Superchips to 280-ish bhp)and I'm showing over 30% leakage in Cyls 2 and 3. Seriously down on PSI in both aswell.
Thought I might just get away with a top end rebuild & new piston rings, but have been advised it could be the block also.
Options are:
1) New Engine - Can source a new engine from Fresinger in Germany. £4k & VAT and shipping
2) Rebuild - Might just get away with new rings, but need to be prepared for a knackered block, so it could be that the garage strips the engine & then it's scrap anyway, which means incurring extra cost unnecessarily.
3) Replacement engine - Hopefully from a damaged car, or from someone who has upgraded & left the old engine behind.
So, has anyone got an engine for sale? Or know of someone who does? I would prefer a 220bhp engine since I like the smaller turbo, but if I can only get a 250 then note that I will need the ECU aswell.
Current engine has 153k, FSH, standard apart from the Superchips DME. Forgot to mention - blew a head gasket aswell, hence more £££'s for the rebuild! Don't want to part with her as I have spent a fair few quid getting her upgraded for trackdays, plus she IS my first Porsche, so I want to keep her for at least 25 years...
Thanks, Garrett
P.S. Have tried a few scrappers to no avail, any info gratefully received

Try these:-
Porsche-apart near Bolton
PH Cars - Derby
Prestige Salvage - Leeds ( last time I was in here they had a 996 GT2 engine for 14K!! might be a tight squeeze in a 944 though!! )
I havn't got any phone numbers on me but I have used them all before and they are good. Phone numbers are all in the back of 'Porsche & 911 World' mag.

Any chance the blown head gasket may be reason for low comp and leak down test?
No, I got the compression test done & was hoping to get a few months out of it before getting the work done. Then, about a week later, started the car, warmed her up to operating temperature, drove under 2000rpm for the first five minutes, put the hammer down and FLOP, power of a Fiat 500, loads of smoke, drove back home.
I drove into the driveway, left the engine running, and in the time it took to open the garage doors (about 40 seconds) the temperature was in the red, fluid all over the nice new block paving!
Cue angry wife...
