997.1 Fantastic Daily Driver

Hi All, this is my first post and really for anyone who is considering getting one of these beauties!
I bought mine in August 2016, a 997.1 C2 S, Tiptronic, Cabriolet. Not in perfect condition but with full service and only 56K miles on the clock, the best I could afford. The only major issue I have had was, after about two months ownership, the water pump let go. I was right outside a Porsche Centre at the time, and yes, I took her in, so an early lesson learned. I have since found an independent specialists in the West Mid’s called Zuffenhaus and they have been superb at a sensible price. The only other expenses have been what I would consider normal running costs, a set of coil packs, a pair of discs and pads, a front suspension arm and a few tyres.
Because I use her every day, she has fresh oil around every 8K miles and I always wait until the oil is up to temperature before taking the RPM above 3K. Unfortunately, my garage is too small, so she has to live outdoors, she gets used all year round, in all-weather, although I do use a hard-top. My commute is 400 miles a week, so the clock now reads 105K miles. She still drives like a new car and I have no intension of ever getting rid of her.
I am convinced that clean oil and being gentle when it’s cold will extract the maximum mileage from any engine. Hope I’m correct? I will keep you posted.

A great car. And it’s refreshing to read about someone using theirs rather than fretting about depreciation. I’d second the idea of getting a front mesh fitted. The amount of gunk that accumulates, especially this time of year, is alarming and can cause expensive damage. It’s also a good idea to allow the car to warm up before getting into proper hoon mode. I never take mine about 3k until the oil gauge has reached the normal operating temperature. Frustrating in central London (it can take approximately twenty minutes stop-starting through the traffic) but worth the wait.
Sure, visual check is easy - turn wheels to full lock one side then other. They are obvious inside the arches.
Re mesh - some go for a stealth Pu off install but zunsport are fine. Just choose the right finish for your paint job.
