I have been looking at the various upgrades offered by a 51% majority owned subsidiary of Porsche AG, Manthey-Racing GmbH.

Apparently their kits/parts are not approved by Porsche AG and therefore under the factory warranty a vehicle with these fitted is deemed "technically modified"

Therefore as with any other modifications, the factory warranty is still valid for the vehicle, any warranty claim will be honoured only if there is demonstrably no causal relationship between the modification and the defect. The lack of causal relationship must be clearly documented in the claim documents submitted by the Centre.

Interestingly the guidelines to Centres do not mention equivalence of non-Porsche parts and Reading "Customer Service" say they "may" affect warranty cover, but I guess equivalence would be part of the bun-fight over cover.

It just seems odd to me that a Porsche controlled subsidiary is selling parts that are excluded from full Porsche factory warranty and that they claim records for the brand using unapproved parts.

can't help you on that - wouldn't Manthey then warranty the parts they install (or possibly the entire car)?

Thanks for the response but my point was more an observation, than a cri de coeur. I have asked Manthey and await their response.

As a parallel example to your question, TechArt do provide an insurance backed warranty for their modifications but how that works in practice I don't know other than the Porsche factory warranty may not respond depending on the circumstances.

As I say it just seems odd that fitting a Porsche Group company's parts may invalidate the factory warranty for related claims.

I generally agree with you - as you say it is a Porsche subsidiary so should not have an impact one would hope

Keep the car at Adenau and use Manthey (approved OPC service center) for any warranty claims. smile

Are you referring to the first three year manufacturer warranty, or the extended insurance warranty. For the second the car has to be standard, as delivered.

As commented in the first post, the factory warranty is still valid for the vehicle if modified, but a warranty claim will be honoured only if there is demonstrably no causal relationship between any modification and the defect. The lack of causal relationship must be clearly documented in the claim documents submitted by the Centre.

The Approved Warranty is an insurance contract, the terms of which I do not have to hand but my understanding is that any modifications, would allow rejection of any claim, causal relationship or not.

My Cayman S has a 3.8L 911 engine, so if a door handle fell off, that would be covered under under the factory warranty but not under the Approved Warranty
