993 c4s why no likey?

Is it the mileage that puts folks off? if so, is it really worth 20k less than those with low miles all things being equal?

Best to buy on condition. The '96 cat seems to have had alot of maintenance which is good to see, but you'd need to get into the detail and have a Pre Purchase Inspection by an expert e.g Dependable Porsche Indie.
If Good and you want to drive and enjoy the car that's the way I would go.
Spending £84k on a car to sit in the garage with running costs and insurance on the hope it will go up (and not down...) seems mad IMO.

Can take tens of thousands to take an average car and make it great.
I would suggest that "On a recent 2,500 miles trip, the car only used one litre of oil."
Is not a positive sign...
Also no Hardback seats
the absence of hardbacks i can live with but the oil is a more real concern although it seems within spec and not out of kilter with owners' experiencesI would suggest that "On a recent 2,500 miles trip, the car only used one litre of oil."

My old and well worn 147k mile 993 4s used almost none over 3k miles, but it had both cam covers done, which is a common leak spot.http://911uk.com/viewtopic.php?p=1421581&sid=3...
Its not always just oil consumption but also oil leakage

Remarkable how prices of these things have shot up. They were around 30 in 2012. I have to remind myself not to get nostalgic. I bought a very tidy manual amazon green with linen leather 964c4 in about 2007 and sold in 2009 with 72k for 15k.
It's the rust that scares me with these and even the most diligent ramp based inspection may not reveal what lurks beneath
Doom aside! what a shape and sound.

The 964 is a different beast to the 993 in the rust department as it basically is the same shell as earlier cars with all the inherent possible rust traps. It’s been knowledge by certain members of the Trade for years (at least 9 years) that forgetting B pillars, below headlamps etc for a minute, that the baulkheads especially on the offside can rot through. As of yet I’ve only heard of possible rot in the chassis legs on the 993, and this seems to vary from car to car, mine had none at near 150K miles for example. That or rust around front and rear scuttles and leading edges of the cills.
