3.2 and G50 into a 1972 911
Discussion
Hi all,
Returning here after many years without a 911, I have an option on a 1972 911 with a blown engine and transmission.
Just wondering how easy ... or hard it would be to put a 3.2 and G50 into it ?
I know the obvious is a 3.0sc engine and mate it to the 915 box but I cant find a 3.0 at a reasonable price, however I know where a 3.2 is
Any help gratefully received
Thanks
Phib

The 3.2 will be ok with the 915 but you will of course need a different flywheel and clutch as the G50 one is different.
Make sure you also get the engine loom and ECU with the 3.2 as they are expensive to buy on their own.
You will have a number of fuel and oil line tweaks to make but nothing too significant.

Thanks guys, the shell is ok ish.
Been through the whole restoration process before with my old 2.7.
Really looking for a bit of a hotrod at the moment that’s not in perfect (but useable) condition.
Basically had perfect cars before and just ended up leaving them in the garage.
So now just want something fun and useable
Thanks

Its not to bad a job, done mine myself.
Need a good welder or fabricator for a day to brace the torsion bar tube and strengthen the suspension mounts, then just cut through the tube about 5mm from the suspension swing arm mounts, you wil then miss cutting through the heavy cast spline hub thats inside the tube with a air saw or plasma cutter. Then you can make some plates to cover the ends of the tube and weld back to the body etc
Just need a pair of coil over dampers then to finish the job.
Rather than change the clutch etc if hydraulic ,put a new peddle box in with hydralic clutch pedal, and set it up exactly for you to drive with no offset of the feet and correct length etc
You could then have a proper brake peddle set up also with a twin master cylinders ,and a nice simple cable throttle peddle etc.
Go for it,make a proper hotrod.
