Based only on performance and standard spec per pound, and ignoring practicallity and residuals, is the Macan S the best value new Porsche on sale today?

I think it might be, but all perspectives welcomed ...

No.

I like the Macan - it's an excellent package and Frankel praised it as the best driving SUV. Perfect if you need a luxury, sporting, lifestyle, 5-door, 4/5-seat, 4x4. It ticks a lot of boxes.

But it's still not an alternative to a proper Porsche sports car. Instead, it makes a valuable contribution to the Porsche balance sheet that enables them to produce the best sports cars in the world .

Base Cayster in manual with few options gets my vote.

Not a proper Porsche. No SUV can be.

But that'll be a 718, Twinfan. Are you sure about this...?

I'd certainly agree, 300 bhp mid engine for £43k is indeed good value imo.

See - I don't bash 718s for the sake of it. Only in comparison threads where I make it clear it's only my opinion wink

new 911 Coupe with the driving options ticked (and not much else) is in my opinion great value for money (esp at UK prices)

Hands down It has to be the new 718 gt4 when it lands shortly.

Currently it’s got to be a macan

I've been fortunate to own Porsches for 30 years - from 2.7RS to GT3 Touring, and much in between, including the Macan (which is a very good family friendly Porsche, no question).

But, hand on heart, for real world qualities, I'd agree that the Cayman GTS would be my contender - 981 obviously. Shame you can no longer buy them new rolleyes

I've owned most things Porsche (inc. GT models.) Overall IMHO the Macan GTS with 20s/PASM/PTV+ full leather and 18-ways is the most complete Porsche car you can buy for the money. Yes, obviously, other models are better in some areas. But overall, you get a lot of metal for your money with the right spec'd Macan GTS.
This pic showing it can actually handle a corner...
