Electric Macan announced... So what is next ... ?

I think they will do it. I did wonder why Porsche have totally dropped diesel as just having petrol derivatives of Macan and Cayenne is hugely limiting and must be killing sales volumes. I guess this may explain it as they were intending to go electric so no diesel is more believable.
I know the next Jag XJ which is I think coming in 2022 is only going to be electric. I think the charging issue will get solved pretty quickly based on demand and with a range of 200 to 300 miles most people will only charge at home. The charging network is really need on motorways and in Europe all the major manufacturers are copoperating on that roll out already.

I'm not against an electric Cayman, but I too worry about charging.
What would I need in the way of solar panels to charge it at home? I'd have to store the created electricity in a battery, then charge the car form that battery, assuming I'd always charge at night when the sun is off.
Sounds pricey, but may reach payback in a few years I guess.
Also, at the "dawn" of electric vehicles, how fast will my battery car and charging technology become old hat and eclipsed by newer tech in a few years? Will that devalue my 983 EV swiftly? Will I want to replace my charging system for greater speed in a few years, chucking away £££ of kit?
Perhaps a 2021 983 CaymEV will have 6 cell battery technology and the 2027 984 CaymEV only 4 cell?

I think the answer to residuals is PCP/Lease. I’ve never done either but think I will with an EV.
Electricity prices are only going one way especially with what you have to expect is increased demand for EV’s so I think you have to look to invest on solar panels....I think the payback will be quicker than expected.

Moose is right about being an aggressive decision by Porsche but one it Has to take to get anywhere near its sales target of 50% EV vehicles by 2025, as the Macan is the main breadwinner.
They will never get there on sportscar sales, so the SUVs and Taycan and presumably EV Panameras must take the strain.
What will be the EV range when towing? a minor point perhaps but some SUVs do tow trailers,caravans, etc .

Latest press reports are saying that the current Macan is to continue in production alongside the new electric version albeit with updated body. Apparently the EV will be built on new platform and the ICE version will continue on existing platform but with near identical bodywork! Porsche are stated as saying this stratgegy is necessary as not all markets will be ready to accept wholesale move to EV - so they ate hedging their bets it seems!

I see what you did there!I actually wonder if electric cars will be like mobile phones - let’s be honest who wants an old iPhone with slow software updates, no battery life etc. Will they just become junk in a very short time.
Another example is LEDs - development of commercial grade units has happened so rapidly that it isn’t worth repairing them for their drivers/ballast. You just take the whole unit - which then doesn’t match the others so you have to replace all of them at huge expense.
Most governments will cock up the building of the infrastructure.
Domestic electric supply is not geared to charging 2 or 3 cars per property let alone those that have to park on a street etc etc Electric cars seem to suffer big depreciation who wants to fund that!
Electric will remain niche for a long time I reckon and as environmental issues way more and more on new petrol/ hybrid I think there will be many enthusiast happy to drive a 10/15 year old classic !
