I have run two cars with the ‘gundo hack’ - a 3.4 996 and a 3.6 997.1. The mod was done by Haywood & Scott in Basildon on both occasions it really improved the sound of the can. H&S are excellent (if you do go there, have a look around the shop - they fabricate stainless exhausts for ETypes etc). It takes a couple of hours and essentially mimics the PSE but is obviously not switchable. It is quite subtle though - you hear it at low revs and when flat out - but otherwise you don’t notice it on motorway runs. My mods were to a stock Porsche back box / muffler - when you say you have a sports exhaust, do you mean you already have third party back boxes?

The fabspeed option you have highlighted will be a category up in terms of noise but I haven’t heard one in person.

Hope this helps

what are your thoughts please on my 2 exhaust options,
anyone have or have had any of the 2 done,
first is the gundo hack,
or the fabspeed muffler bypass pipes https://www.fabspeed.com/porsche-997-carrera-muffl...
my car does have the sports exhaust but I still think its lacking,
my thoughts are if I get the gundo hack done and I don't like it then there is no going back, cost around £250
fabspeed option, £400 but easily changed back if not liked,
thanks.

My thoughts are be very sure before you mess with what many people consider to be one of the best sounding exhaust options for the M96. The PSE sound is widely regarded as an excellent balance of tone and volume (like some other things) - although it’s a very personal thing of course. There are plenty of aftermarket options but louder/deeper/raspier doesn’t always = better.

I know what your saying mate, it does sound nice on tick over, but other than that I cant really hear it from inside, but then again I wouldn't want to sound like some boy racer, iv heard a fair few different sounds on youtube, some sound good, some very not good, .

like my previous lowering springs experience, I think im best leaving well alone, as porsche seemed to have done a pretty good job in the first place,
thanks

I had PSE on mine and I could only really hear it with the windows down. Even then it wasn’t eventful unless going through a tunnel. But the first time someone else drove my car and I stood and listened I realised how good it sounded!

This 1000% The car is too well insulated for the noise to get into the cabin. I felt exactly the same about mine until I put the window down. As Griffter has said, get someone else to drive the car and you'll realise how good it actually is. IMHO some of the aftermarket systems sound a bit ricer and are on the wrong side of ASBO.

There are a set of 996 genuine back boxes on eBay at the moments. May be worth getting and experimenting with those.

If you don’t like with the gundo hack then can sell on and put the originals back on.
