Thoughts on the Porsche Cayenne S.
Mrs currently has a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee 3.0v6 diesel.
She does limited mileage (3000 last year).
Nothing wrong with the jeep, just contemplating another V8 on the drive and the Cayenne seems like a lot of 4x4 for the money,
Are earlier ones money pits, I’m not nit expecting it to be shoestring motoring but are they a big no no. Or are they a hidden gem

I have a 2008 Cayenne S with 250,000km on it from new including 50,000 towing a car trailer. Has off loaded, endured Canadian winter, the lot. Generally had been really good; two costly items:
- oil leak and camshaft lifters.
It has had a tough life since I bought it in Jan 2008, lives outside in the Canadian winters and trips to the desert. Still drives as well as knew. Generally very well built and tough- seems as if it will go forever. As with any Porsche parts and service are not cheap . Invoices below are in Canadian dollars.

Lovely old thing but I've had it a long time, 2004 car. Tows well, supremely comfortable with air suspension and has the ability to pick up her skirts and hustle if you feel that way inclined.
Can be driven almost like a sports car on the correct settings or glide like a limo. Body control is superb with air suspension and Pasm.
Locking diffs front and back and low ratio, the choice of off road tyres are the only limiting factor in 275 size.
Water pipes in the Vee of the engine are a known issue, most have been replaced by now. Cardan shaft centre bearings go at about 100,000 miles. In tank fuel pump packed up last year, fixed by local garage.
Can be ran at Porsche prices or quite sensibly by using original parts not in a Porsche box.
Interiors last very well. Mine at 15 years old still presents well after a wash and brush up .
At 150,000 miles and with very little value there's is nothing else that compares.
A hidden gem indeed !
