Selling my 911 to used dealer, non-specialist. They will collect from my home.

Payment via CHAPS or Faster Payment, which I understand is non-reversable (though would first need to confirm funds cleared by my bank).

Anything else I should do?

- Ask for proof of ID.

- I assume they would provide a "Purchase Invoice" will full details of buyer (i.e. Name, Company Name, Company Number, Registered address, VAT Number) and my car details (reg, model, VIN etc)

- I will issue them a receipt (stating sold as seen, time and date of collection, mileage, reg etc), we both complete yellow section of V5 (I return to DVLA ... or just fill out form online), they take V5 (I have a copy).

Id look up reviews of the dealer, I sold my old Cayman R to Mike as Ashgood Porsche and was worried also as had never done it before.

Have to say they did everything in a way I didn't need to worry and was an absolute pleasure dealing with them.

Rather than using the yellow paper copy off the v5 do it on line with the DVLA, "selling to a trader " assuming its between 7am and 7 pm. thats gives you an E mail conformation the records have been updated instantly.

Good luck with the sale

I sold my car to a private individual last year £30k+.
He paid using his banking app, the money arrived about 2 seconds later via Faster Payments. I rang the bank 5 secs later and the Santander staff informed me this transfer was real and irreversible.
I wrote/printed a sales invoice with the VIN on it and his home address, we both signed it. Then posted the V5. I don't think you can do any more.

Just sold my car to a specialist Porsche dealer. It was Friday circa 3pm, they transferred the money and gave me a copy of the transfer, logged onto the gov site and completed the "selling to a motor trader" section. The money didn't arrive instantly, i checked the next day and it was there.

Similar to above I bought a Cayman for £30+k last year, transferred the money through my banking app, then transferred ownership online. All done in a matter of seconds and new V5 came through the letterbox a few days later.

Good luck!

Funds received through CHAPS or Faster Payment can be taken back if the payment was fraudulent. So you need to make sure the person making the payment is in fact the account holder/authorised.

In practice this means if it's a private sale insist they bring suitable photo ID (passport). If it's a business make sure the person actually works for the business (correspond on listed business email/number, etc). Then make sure the payment has come from the correct account, i.e. where the private buyer or business is the account holder.

Also don't use this site for info on the dealer. Unfortunately Pistonheads take down negative threads at the request of dealers, but they'll leave positive ones up. So you'll get a very one sided and possibly misleading picture.

Good luck, i'm sure you'll be fine smile
