I drive 2003 C4S and I have been toying with the idea of getting a 2003 996TT. So Yesterday popped down to the local OPC to have a spin in one.

I have a question for owners that have owned both cars in what they thought the difference s in driving the 2 cars was?

I found that the clutch and the gear box totally different the clutch was light and the gear box more fluid (less stiff), I am guessing that these things the difference between individual cars etc. the same if you compared to TT side by side.

Interestingly was the speed and power, (these things are always hard to put in words) but I found that the TT didn’t seem to be as responsive the C4s or I perceived it was. Once you put you foot down it went, but the power kicked in later, also my C4s seem to have much more engine breaking than the turbo.

Now I am asking if this is normal due to the turbo ? what’s was you opinion of driving differences between the 2 cars ?

Thanks in Advance

Both tt's i have owned have had light clutches and the gearbox are smoother than the C4S C2 Boxster etc.
The power in the C4S is instant and whilst in the tt you have a small amount of lag there is no comparison in performance. Problem is on test drives you dont really get the chance to 'DRIVE IT' properly so you dont get the true feel for the car and get to appreciate its power. I had a C4 for a week while my tt was in for repair and i couldnt wait to get shot of it and back into the tt.

Engine braking?? You really are better off using the hugely powerful brakes to slow th ecar down. Use the engine to go faster!

C4S will be more instant - naturally aspirated and approx 11:1 compression.
Turbo is more like 8:1 and there's some lag (very little compared to a '74 turbo ).
That also explains the engine braking i reckon.

As for the clutch, i don't know about the 996, but the n/a 993 cars have a good firm clutch, the 993tt has a very light clutch due to the fact it has hydraulic assistance (necessitated by 1.5ton clutch springs!).
