Ongoing issues with a 981 Boxster from OPC
Discussion
Hi,
I just need a little advice on an issue I’m having if anybody can help and is in the know.
I got rid of my 08 997 in part ex for a 62 981 through an official Porsche dealer. I was having numerous faults one after another and my confidence with the car was shot at along with the heavy bills.
I picked up the car at the beginning of March and on the way back home I noticed that the brake pedal seemed to be sticking on. Not noticeable at speed but when idling along to a stop it felt like i was being pulled back and it could have stalled.
It went back in on the following Monday and the pedal bush swapped.
3 weeks ago, I noticed that the car was spluttering a little, especially from cold start but looking back it probably didn’t feel great from new. Not having had a 981 before, I had nothing to judge it by. On further driving before giving the dealership a call the yellow engine warning light came on and it felt rough.
I gave the dealership a call and they got Porsche assistance to call me back and arranged for the AA to come and visit. The technician plugged the diagnostics in and he said it was a misfire fault. He cleared the fault and told me to take it for a drive. It felt spluttery (for want of a better word) still.
He arranged for a transporter to take it to the dealership.
Porsche had it 2 days and came back to me to say they couldn’t find a fault with it. I asked them if the fault is showing on diagnostic but told me that the AA guy had cleared it and they were unable to spot anything or read any previous error codes. You can imagine I was quite angry because I know, just by driving it that it didn’t feel perfect, so they agreed to keep it overnight and start it cold again and drive it for up to 50 miles with my permission. You guessed it nothing....
I got the car back last week but I was going away on holiday so I only managed to take it for a quick spin up the road and back 2 mins, when it was delivered back. To be honest it did feel ok but it was a very quick test.
Ive started up again tonight to take it out for a drive in the nice weather and its started to feel spluttery again. On idle, the rev needle is wavering and then on driving it, the engine light has come on again.
I had something similar on my 997 before I got rid of it and it was the coil pack so i’m pretty confident it will be something along those lines but I am now completely pi@@ed of with the car. I have absolutely no love for it and have lost all confidence in the car and the dealership.
I've had it for less than two months and its done more miles to and from the dealership than I have put on it.
The question is, what is my situation with regards getting a refund or a replacement under the consumer rights act. Do I have any grounds for complaint or do you think I should just suck it up and get them to repair it again.
Thanks

They haven't actually done a repair on the misfire - the CEL will give them the info as to which cylinder is affected and it's likely to be a quick fix.
They fixed the brake issue and you've been back once more - it's hardly been a constant stream of unresolved faults.
There is no chance of a refund as they have not attempted a repair and they have to have that chance.
Once it's fixed a few decent early summer drives will rekindle your love.

Yes, your probably right.
I'm probably just in a bad mood with it. The fact that in less than two months ownership it will have been back three times.
Believe it or not I still haven’t been to a petrol station with it yet
Yes, it sounds like a coil pack problem. I think Pete g is right; get them to sort it out, treat it to a weekend or two away and you’ll fall in love. You have a great car!I'm probably just in a bad mood with it. The fact that in less than two months ownership it will have been back three times.

No, giving them the opportunity to repair puts you in all sorts of problems with later trying to reject it.They fixed the brake issue and you've been back once more - it's hardly been a constant stream of unresolved faults.

After a month of ownership, if not happy reject it and get your money back. End of.
I’m two months into ownership now so probably got no chance. It was taken away on a trailer this morning and delivered to OPC.
I sent a strong email to the service manager and I got a grovelling phone call about 30 mins later.
I’ll just have to see how things progress today with it.
Thanks for your input, appreciate it

Yes - but after that 30 day period you have to give the supplier a chance to rectify the problem, otherwise you cannot reject it.After a month of ownership, if not happy reject it and get your money back. End of.
Similar to the above, I've had 2 of 4 of the well known issues with a 981, also repaired under warranty,
Firstly parking brake error, fixed with a new part.
Heater motor failed, no air which was fixed with a new motor.
I had a new coil pack last week, PSM error - Start stop disabled and 'stuttering' just as that came on.
Expecting the pedal bush soon too as I can feel the pedal 'stick' occasionally.
Basically if you have an early 981 that hasn't had all those fixed (or is higher mileage and they were fixed a while ago) expect them all!

I got it back yesterday and I haven’t been able to take it out yet for a test yet until later this afternoon.
It turned out to be a rocker valve I think the service manager said. It didn’t come back with any paper work so I can’t be certain but it was definitely a valve which created a misfire at low revs.
Looking forward to giving it a good go this weekend if the weather holds up.
