I want to fit the same Schroth harnesses into my GT3 that are supplied in the RS. So please could someone let me know which variation they are?

I know they are 6 point, but that's it. Safety Devices seems to be the best source for them. Far cheaper than Porsche, and I can get them in black, whereas the OPC are only able to supply them in red.

The safety devices site is here|http://www.safetydevices.com/content/view/150/74/

Thanks

Mark

6 point, 3" main straps that wrap around harness bar, 2" lap straps (GT3 version has custom pivot mountings, not eye bolt clips), 2 point crutch straps with eye bolt fixings.

By the look of the catalogue the nearest equivalent seems to be the Profi II-6F 6-point harness belt.

Like you I have been looking at fitting a 6 point harness and have been told that the only Schroth model for the GT3 seats is one that is made specifically for the GT3 as you have outlined. However my understanding is that the crotch strap is fixed to a cross bar that is itself mounted underneath the GT3 seat. Apart form the RS I believe you have to buy this mounting bar separately and need to take the seat out of the car to fix it. The correct parts can be bought from Gert in Belgium at www.carnewal.com.

In total it looks like you are looking at about £300 for the belt and bracket.

If you know of anyone looking to sell a Tequipment half cage then please let me know as I need this also to put the harnesses in the car.

Steve,

I have spoken to Safety devices and they can get the Schroth GT3 harness for £135 + vat each. Re the cross bar, you can buy this from any OPC (Part No. P996.521.933.90) for £41.40 + vat each.

You do need to take the seat out, not sure how easy that is, but I’ll certainly have a go. It can’t be that hard?!

Considerably cheaper than having it done by an OPC – they quoted £708.29 for the parts plus fitting!! Total cost doing it yourself £432 inc vat & delivery.

I don’t know of anyone selling a half cage, but if I here anything I’ll let you know.

Cheers,

Mark

Very interested in the Safety Devices information does the belt have the twist buckle(not road legal) or the push button(road legal). I know that SD import the Schroth harnesses and put their own badge over the top of the Schroth one. So you could well be on to a winner. Did they confirm that the lap straps fit onto the seats as part of the existing standard road retractable seat belt mountings? Can you get them in various colours or are you just limited to red?

Sorry so many questions but I guess we both need to be sure.

Steve,

The Schroth GT3 harnesses have a rotory buckle. This isn't a problem as you have a standard seat belt as well. One thing I have thought, is that you need to be able to disable the warning beeper that reminds you to put your seat belt on! Not sure if Porsche will do that?

I have ordered the harnesses with Schroth labels in place of the "saftey devices" one. They confirmed that they would fit the GT3, and that the lap belts would fit onto the seat belt mountings.

I have ordered mine in black. They are also available in red, blue and silver.

You may want to hold off ordering until I get mine, to make sure they fit as promised.

No probs with questions, better to get it right.

Cheers,

Mark

I have a Mk1 GT3 and I've only had it for a few days now but the other day when driving without a seatbelt(I don't normally do this) I had a dash warning light on, but I can't recall hearing a buzzer. I guess you might have a MK2 GT3 or alternatively the buzzer on mine is kaput.

From what I can see, removing the seat involves undoing 4 star headed bolts from the runners, not sure of the size of the heads. Seat should then lift straight out

Nice to hear that they have alternative colours, I too would go for black(same colour as car) I also prefer the turn buckle rather than push button(I have Schroth turn buckle 4 points on my 968 CS)

Interseting that SD label delete is an option that they are happy to supply. Please let me know how you get on.

Steve,

I have a MII GT3 - it reminds you on the driver information panel to put your seat belt on. Then when you select ok the bloody thing beeps at you continuously until you put the seat belt on!

I'll let you know how I get on - I think delivery is a couple of weeks as they are special order. Not problem as I am on holiday next week!

Cheers,

Mark

Mark,

Check your seat before ordering the crutch strap bar as some cars came with them already in place.

I got my belt from Porsche Guildford and it was about the same price as you are quoting from Safety watchamacallit. They are also sided, the idea being that if you do have a moment the stitching on the outside "gives" slightly to turn your body into the car to avoid you coming into contact with the outside (hope that makes sense).

I also prefer to have the twist to the button but that is my personal choice.

Hi Paul,

Thanks for the info. I have checked my seats and I do need the cross member for the crotch strap.

Porsche Guildford are clearly a lot cheaper then my local OPC - as they charge £260 + vat for each harness. That's almost twice the price Safety Devices are charging.

Cheers,

Mark

If anybody has an outstanding order for anything from Safety Devices - Harnesses, roll cage etc. then just to let you know they went into administration as of the 14th June.

I had some harnesses on order and they had taken 50% of the order value £167. Chances of getting that back is slim, especially as I paid for it by visa/delta.

Buy from www.fvd.de they have them in stock in various sizes colours, widths etc and they wont have Safety Devices on them. You can get them from their UK distributor.

Damn!!! I was counting on you to let me know whether they were good VFM, clearly with your 50% deposit they are obviously not. The site rr mentions does not seem to have the GT3 6 point, I fear only Gert or an OPC can help us.

I do my seat belt up behind the seat as a way of turning the light off while using the harnesses.

I think Mark is more concerned about the electronic gong that the MK2's have if you've forgotten your seat belt.

BTW I did Bedford yesterday evening for the 1st outing in MK1, wow what a blast. Mitsubishi brought 4 different EVO 8's along and most of the cars there were EVO's as well, the GT3 humbled them all, that's my boy!!! Dunlop's worked really well but when warmed up I got loads of understeer on some of the faster bends. I know front brakes get hot but that combined with a hot day ended up melting the dust caps on the valves.... Oh, and the splitter fell off after a brief understeery trip onto the grass.

Still waiting for Sid to get back to me, I guess he's busy.

911's suffer from power on understeer - car may need to be setup properly. If you haven't it is certainly worth the money - Parr or JZM! Also were you on top of your tyre pressures? If they were too high at the front this would also cause the understeer.

Glad you enjoyed the car and gave the Mitsi's a good spanking!

Ajit, I think it's different on the MKII, nevertheless there must be a way to switch off the gong as the GT3 RS has the same setup. If not, I will do as you suggest and wrap the seat belt behind the seat and fasten it - bit if a nuisance, but better than listening to that bloody noise!

Was running 31psi hot all round on the SSR's. I definitely think the car needs Geometry reset but for now would rather play with understeer until I get ready to tackle 360 bhp on snap oversteer.

31 hot all around is what i ran with yesterday at Donnington. What a brilliant day and brilliant track - definitely my favourite track on these shores! The setup definitely helped me - i chalked up my tyres to see where the wear was and despite the neg camber, it was wearing beyond the tread points.

I ran the dunlop ssrs 31 hot allaround. They do get very hot - and don't handle as well when they're very hot. Mind you, yesterday afternoon was very hot so on most days they are fine.

I'm learning more about the GT3 each trackday - this was my 7th and the main thing i took from yesterday was how adjustable it is through a corner, through understeer and oversteer (induced and more pronounced no doubt by my less than perfect lines allthe time).

I did knacker my collar bones though with the tight harnesses - so went out today and got some padding for the harnesses!

Cheers

Ajit.

How much negative camber were you running? Do you find that this leads to premature wear on the inside of the tread??

I agree with you that Donington is a great track, on my last visit I built up to Craner flat out(in the 968) and lost it at the bottom of Craner doing c105mph, ended up going backwards through the gravel trap and re-emerging onto the black stuff at the exit from old hairpin. Boy what a lucky escape, thankfully the grass was dry, unlike my pants
