Bent Motors
A cautionary tale in Porsche purchasing from our in house expert Earnest Farqwhit.

Love it. I did buy my last Porsche from a Fellow Freemason and had seven happy years with it before selling it on to a neighbour, who still speaks to me a year later. The current one came from Portfield Sports Cars at Chichester, who expired before the warranty did, but not before I had called on it. Just for the record, the Solemn Obligations of a Freemason preclude shagging the wife of a Brother - so your advice runs a bit wide on that corner!
Not sure who's written this (Is that you again Iguana
) but it is worrying that some people are allowed to buy cars and even more worrying that people are allowed to scare others with these stories.
I'll stand by my word on this and eat, well, something unedible if anyone disagrees.
If you know THAT little about cars then you really should go with the above advice without question (in fact shouldn't be buying a Porsche, you don't deserve one). If you have half a brain, or even a clever hamster to take with you then you can spot these things (and a great deal more of course).
There are very simple checks, which I, (and Iguana cos he knows his stuff) will tell you offline for spotting a dodgy motor.
It's like everything else in life, if you do it properly you'll have to be very unlucky to go wrong.
I get frustrated with people thinking you stand more chance of becoming a millionaire on a Saturday night than beingable to buy a good second hand car.

This is an interesting story but does not only apply to private rogues. I have a 1997 911/993 C2 Cabrio. To avoid the sort of trouble I read about here I bought it from a main Porsche dealer. It turned out to have had a number of paint jobs, all poor and none by Porsche, runs, and rust spots that I did not see in the showroom. It took months to get the car resprayed and it cost over £5000. Luckily, I found a novel way of making the dealer, and Porsche, meet their oblications. The car cost £40k. Now it is as good as new. The motto is, don't trust any of them.
