I am posting on behalf of my Dad who owns a 993 targa. The exhaust on it is now looking a little bit rusty on the tips. I was wondering are there any decent 993 exhaust systems out there? I have seen on the scuderia website the video of the 993 turbo with tubi exhausts. Anyone know pricing for that?

Cheers

This has come up a few times and it's often been said that the best ones to go for are the RSR mufflers. Go to www.carnewal-europe.com/

Not got them myself, but I expect someone who has will appear shortly...

Have thought about getting them for mine a few times and when I have the cash spare I probably will if they're still the ones to go for?

You can just buy the tips on their own you know, from Porsche parts suppliers.

.......though the sports exhaust would be better

I’ve got RSR’s on mine and although there is really no power gain the sound and overall enhanced thugery make them well worth while. If I recall correctly they cost me about £250 with the original silencers going in part exchange.

The other option I would be keen to hear about are the Fabspeed ‘Supercup’ silencers. From what I gather these are even louder than the RSR’s I wonder if anybody would like to comment?

Fabspeed Maxflo's have a slight resonance at about 3k rpm, Fabspeed Supercups make a car sounds like it took a wrong turning at the end of the pit straight... your missus will hear you leaving work, let alone getting home!

RSR's are great, nice combo of sound without losing sanity.

But as has already been said, you don't have to replace the silencers, yuo could just replace the tips. I picked up some big ovals from ebay for just £64 recently, and they polished up a treat!

I had Fabspeed Supercups on mine, they are utter 'let's-go-mental-let's-go-mental', errr they're a bit mental. They make your normally meek-sounding 993 roar like they'd give a AJP V8 Cerb with no silencers a run for its money. The sound is, actually, bloody marvellous - but they're mental Far too loud for me in the end, and brain-melting resonance at low revs. Easy solution - bounce it off the rev limiter everywhere you go, you'll either end up feeling like you've done 24 hours at Le Mans, or end up arrested.

Mine are now in a box in my cellar, waiting for someone to buy them

I am currently running Cargraphic stainless backboxes, I love the sound of these. They are fairly quiet but have a really vicious, hollow rasp on WOT and howl at high revs. They are probably a bit quieter overall than the RSRs but I've also got supercharger whine and cone filter induction to add to the mix

Ideally I'd have a nice button on the dash that switched between Cargraphic-style sound and the full Mental supercup chaos. I believe Ruf made a switchable bypass-type 993 system, but I never found out how expensive it was. Installing a switching system into the dash usually ends up very pricey labour-wise.

That's my 993TT on the Scuderia site. I've also got Techart 100 cell race cats and with the Tubi's the sound is fantastic - the video clip doesn't really do it justice. That video is about 3/4 years old but I think the overall cost for the lot was just over 2 large!

Thank you for the information guys. I shall get researching on those suggested systems.

Ewan: Impressive setup. It sounds very nice.
