At a BBQ at the weekend and a chap had turned up in an old 911 turbo. It's a 1998 Turbo S in yellow. He was telling me only 20 of these were made worldwide, only 6 RHD, his being the only one in the country, it is 500bhp. He said you see similar on the road but they have all been converted to the same spec as his. Said a DB9 owner wanted to swap with him (for a bit extra as well as the 911).

I had no reason to not believe him, and family all say is is a very honest chap - but I've never heard of this one before, specially made by porsche 500bhp - is this correct? anyone know about this?

He's offered to let me drive it (woohoo!!)

maybe i am missing something, but it sounds eerily like you are trying to describe a RUF CTR.

Yes, there was a 993 Turbo S. Think it was nearer 30 RHD cars that came to the UK though and with 450bhp as standard.

For 7 rhd Uk cars, he's maybe thinking 993 GT2.

Does it look like the yellow one here:
www.qv500.com/porsche993p3.php

The Turbo S was made in limited numbers, but had 424bhp, so unless it's been tuned somewhere he's talking porkies.

Thanks for the replies all.

It's not the same as the 993 turbo S picture, doesn't have yellow alloys, and the spoiler is different at the back (it curves upwards on his). Acutally looking at the photo's again, it looks like the dark red one at the top of the page more than the yellow.

Not sure what it could be, he insisted they only made about 20 worldwide, but he did say he'd had it chipped to get it to 500bhp. says it will do over 200mph. 0-60 in 3.2 seconds.

so god knows!!

after reading the article it has to be the same car (but spoiler on the red one, not the yellow). For he did also mention his is air-cooled, and the water cooled ones came just after this).

The word OLD threw me. 993 turbo is the pinnacle of air cooled design!

Strangley enough, just spotted one parked at north beach car park here in Guernsey this afternoon.
Genuine 993 turbo s, bright red, full interior carbon pack, yellow calipers, 4 exhausts, beautiful, the best looking car ever made (after the 993 gt2).

Has he got slicks on it? If not, ask him to demonstrate that 0-60 time

Just a passing observation, watch out for these US figures for BHP, they are lower than the European ones due to the high restrictions on emissions. The S was a 450 bhp over here. For example, you see the 996 TT as 420 bhp here and 415 in the states.

A PHer used to own a yellow Turbo S. An absolutely beautiful car. From memory as there were very few built he decided against chipping/modifying it.

964 Turbo S, I imagine.

But only 380 hp or thereabouts. Based on the 3.3l turbo, oddly, not the 3.6.

The S version of the 3.6 was a flatnose -- see here: www.flachbau.com/1994s.html

Hi John

It's not Paul Bailey - very similar but I'm sure the spoiler is different (??). I'll see it again at weekend, so I'll remember more details.

His car is a very highly specced factory 993 turbo X50, factory spoiler kit etc, which has then been modded even further with techart exhaust and general tweakages.

Apologies in advance for hijacking the thread, but there's a 2000 996 for sale out here with a reported 530 PS. It's either a Techart or Gemballa and is badged as such - anyone know much about them?

Just some observations:
993 Turbo S was 450bhp for UK - and it used to be easy to spot by yellow brake calipers. Not many RHD, cannot remember figure off hand, but I know of at least 5 in the UK.
964 Turbo S - a handful of RHD cars. One black and one yellow at PCGB Eynsham Hall 2 years ago. Slant nose RHD 964 Turbo S didn't officially exist, but there are two of them.
