insurance renewal
Discussion
Odd, lost my original text.
Got a renewal notice from LV, horrid £1,600 and was £1,000 last year.
Called Direct line and got the same coverage for £677, explain that. Most others were around £1,000 so how can things be so different?
Also, Tesco told me they only provide thrid party cover for Porsche. Very odd.

I'm with Privilege who are owned by Direct Line.
Every year i ring around, armed with my renewal, and every year i can't get close. They are consistently a few hundred quid cheaper than anyone else. Think it's the age/car combination.
Had to put a claim through a few years back (someone elses fault) and it was a breeze. Very quick, very helpful.

I doubt that very much considering the value of a Porsche. It's too much of a risk to them to go 3rd party i.e. if the car is involved in an own fault accident and the policy holder is unscrupulous he could simply 'lose' the car and submit a claim that it had been stolen. Insurers pays out for a new car based on pre accident condition and the policy holder is quids in with enough cash to buy a new car.
I doubt there's any insurers that provide TPFT cover on vehicles worth more than £3k.

have you tried elephant? they were considerably cheaper than direct line for my renewal quote!
They are bloody awful at after-sales service though - my brother had no end of trouble with them (and he was only changing car, I dread to think what would have happened if he needed to make a claim)...

Not much good claiming for theft if you're insured third party only.

That's not what I said. You managed to edit the bit at the bottom regarding TPFT
