The PS4S is the correct winter tyres for the GT3 and GT3 RS

what you will notice and noobs have issue with on track is the speed in the corrective lock and reaction time on a wet slippy track.
A good watch all the same by one of the best 911 current drivers.

Just because he keeps it on the black stuff, doesn't mean the PS4S tyre is the "correct" Winter tyre for ANY car, let alone a GT3/RS.
Temperature is everything with tyres, and October at the 'Ring, whilst cool, isn't close to freezing :
http://www.myweather2.com/Motor-Racing/Germany/Nur...
http://www.myweather2.com/activity/hourimage.aspx?...
Not sure what Michelin specifies the shore hardness for the PS4S is at lower temperatures, but the colder it gets, the less grip it'll display (obviously)
Quoted verbatim from Tirerack's webpage on the PS4S :
https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=...
"The Pilot Sport 4S excels in warm dry and wet conditions, so like all Max Performance Summer tires, is not intended to be serviced, stored nor driven in near- and below-freezing temperatures, through snow or on ice."
In other words, it's far from being THE ideal or indeed correct Winter tyre ...
The reason the car stays on the black stuff is down to driver ability, NOT the tyres I'm afraid.

I put PS4S front / PS4 rear on my 3RS last winter and took it to the ring. It was alright. Certainly made the drive there easier through horrible storms.
On track, guess what, it's just a slippy hellish place!
This week I was back, with new cup 2 N2s, and when it rained it was just as slippy and hellish, and we aborted when standing water appeared.
We had the same opposite lock fun through AF for a couple laps then decided we preferred the bar.
I don't see the point of changing from the Cup 2s really. It's a softer and worse car with the PS4/S on.
Interestingly on a dry track in the hands of someone who can drive, the PS4 setup wasn't vastly slower than the Cup 2s around Spa. But it was still slower - and less enjoyable, more wear, etc.
This winter I'm keeping the Cup 2 because I doubt I'll be out as much in it.
Edit: Also, Kevin is nuts

when most will run cups and say the grip is fine all thoughout winter the PS4S would be a good choice for those nice summer winter days.as in the UK we don't really get freezing temps but we DO GET RAIN . 2 years back we have zero frosts in the midlands and ave temps in the day sit about 7 or 8 oc.
Of course you can buy full on winter tyres, but the PS4S as used in the vid are mega tyres if you don't want to use those cups.
In Scotland you might want winters ;-)
I hate the cups in the cold and more so on standing water.
If they did them in suitable sizes, I'd have thought the most suitable winter tyres for the UK would be these:
https://www.michelin.co.uk/auto/tyres/michelin-cro...
Should be perfectly suited to the temperatures and amounts of snow we actually see in the majority of the UK.
Full winters can be a bit extreme and actually give less grip in the majority of winter conditions.

Depends if you live in Scotland or the midlands really as I stated above. Full on winters in the midlands would be crap, and when it snows you don't go out anyway, well not in a GT car in the main.https://www.michelin.co.uk/auto/tyres/michelin-cro...

more the point was an excuse to post the vid :-)

Quoted for PS4S £296 for fronts and £396 for rears fitted from OPC. Worth negotiating?? I could get a good independent to fit but concerned about centre locks and possible damage etc. Anybody else got better pricing from their OPC?
Assuming that is for all 4 and inclusive of everything then it's a good price.I just paid £716 for all for which included a 15% off offer at the time. Usual price was nearer £800.
(I guess there's never any harm asking for more off - they can always say no

That doesn’t really show the PS4s in a great light, tyre is struggling in those conditions and the track looks more damp than wet. I rate the PS4’s and use them for road trips but a damp ring is a slippy place and that tyre is struggling in those conditions and at that speed, drivers talent and knowledge of the ring is a big factor of the lap posted.what you will notice and noobs have issue with on track is the speed in the corrective lock and reaction time on a wet slippy track.

I wasn't clear in my first post - total will be £1384 including VAT and fitting. So if you paid £716 then that's a very good deal.I just paid £716 for all for which included a 15% off offer at the time. Usual price was nearer £800.

was just about to post the same thing. They have more experience at the ring than just about anyone and will push the cars much harder than your average Joe ever will.
They may do, but title is PS4’s best winter tyre, not wet tyre?Ring is closed to the public for most of the winter months so companies like Apex aren’t running.
PS4s is a good tyre and I use them but wouldn’t recommend as a winter tyre

a winter tyre if you live in the midlands and work from home will not perform as well as a PS4S from 9.30 till 8pm.Ring is closed to the public for most of the winter months so companies like Apex aren’t running.

if you live in Scotland and start work at 6am then a winter tyre would then outperform a PS4S at -6 in the snow.
winter tyres are not great ENGLISH tyres due to high ave temps we get , hence the industry has made "cross climate " tyres now.
but the PS4S will outperform those also in normal daytime temps even in winter as it's just too warm here.

I spent today at Milbrook and some of the relatively local roads that Evo use. It was pretty wet and my Cup 2’s are being replaced later this week after nearly 6k miles including a few track and Bruntingthorpe outings. I learnt a lot about how capable they are in the wet...standing water is different but there was plenty of grip...small/constant inputs transform the grip levels. I was amazed at the grip available.
Low temps is a different issue especially combined with wet conditions which Inhave experienced at Silverstone. Today really surprised me.

Come on slippy,i did spot a bit of water on the track in one place
Perfect day for cups by the looks of it,he was also playing with it in places to get to step out.
Perhaps it was down to the double spring dampers making it oversteer;)
We all know R is the expert on here who lives in a weather pocket unlike any where else in the uk,i live not far from the midlands and funny enough have winter tyres for every winter on my daily,so does the wife.

winter tyres the wrong English tyre for winter !! so you are putting your wife at risk imo if you live in middle England. We all know R is the expert on here who lives in a weather pocket unlike any where else in the uk,i live not far from the midlands and funny enough have winter tyres for every winter on my daily,so does the wife.
What I also notice with winter tyre owners is they KEEP THEM ALONG TIME , they don;t buy new ones every year and really a worn winter tyre is a s
t tyre.it's proven winter tyres don't work as well as cross climate, or all season tyres here, and yes the midlands is a warm place as it the UK on the whole we are an island and the water keeps us warm :-)
I hardly ever see snow and 3 winters ago did not even have a frost we don't even get that much rain ! The lake district is called that for a reason :-)
Now if you live in Norway you have to use tyres which work there, or UP north in the UK :-)
but in the England cross climate, or all season tyres are the best tyre though winter. NOT WINTER TYRES.
A new winter record (21.2° C) 26 February, Kew Gardens (London); the first time 20 C has been reached in the UK in a winter month.
A new December record (18.7° C) 28 December, Achfary (Sutherland).
A new February minimum record (13.9° C) 23 February, Achnagart (Highland)
No national low-temperature records were set during the year. !!!!!
Supporting the warming trend, the most recent decade (2010–2019) has had 6% fewer days of air frost and 10% fewer days of ground frost in the UK compared to the 1981–2010 average, and both 16% fewer compared to 1961–1990.
2019 was the sixth consecutive year with fewer frosts than average and it was one of the least snowy years on record.
winter tyres are so yesterday !!!!!! if you want to be safe fit Cross climate tyres.
ps how are your Ti manifolds lol ?
