1st P:orsche ? 944 ?

Carefully does it now. The mk2 Cavalier owning gimp comes into some money and immediately thinks "944, 944, 944, 944"
If I paid £2 - £4K for one and insured it as a Sunday only Classic, it'd be a nice idea ? Right ?
Yes more investigation required as I'm only expert on early 80's FWD 1.8i Vauxhalls.

Yip, not bad idea, can get examples of all the 944s for sub £4k, tho the S2s & 250 turbos will usually be far from minters.

Their lighter, and they feel it too.
Patience, though is essential if you want to find a reliable one, and that usually means lots of history. Cheapish to run, though regular servicing is essential,it's still a quick point to point car, fitting half decent rubber seems to make a big difference in the wet. I keeping meaning to change mine, but still waiting for a good 951 or 911SC to materialise.

See Silverback Mike in "944 for a grand" shocker...
This thing hasn't put a foot wrong. Practical, reliable, and handles excellently. Ok, not the fastest thing in a straight line but likes a good spanking on the twisties.
My advice to anyone wondering is to get one. But....watch there are no whines from the gearbox (by back seat), make sure the belts have been done recently (balance and cam), and try to get one without any oil leaks.
Mine has had all that done, is dry as a bone, uses no oil and does indeed go like stink.
Even sounds quite nice due to a stainless exhaust (dansk item)
They are pretty bombproof, and an absolute hoot for not much outlay. Mind you, if you get a pup, they do cost, so take a good dose of common sense when looking at one, and leave the rose coloured specs at home. (Says me who always buys the first one
