964 with alternate spoiler?
Discussion
Hi all,
I currently have an elise and am looking to add a 964 to the collection. I am sure between now and December (purchase month) I will be toying with the idea of a cerbera as well, but I would like some pointers to alternate options for the 964 spoiler/tail. I prefer the look of a fixed spoiler on the back of the 964 and have only really seen the whale tail version attached to the 964RS. I was looking for some examples of a more subtle finish. The 993RS small spoiler is just right so I was wondering if at the time the 964 was on the market there were other options rather than just with or without whale tail.
thank you.

No, basically, the narrow body 964 only ever came with the electric spoiler (it raises at 50mph... this is quite subtle anyway).
The Turbo 2, RSR etc were wide bodied with large spoilers, but the boot lid is the same AFAIK. Spoilers from the 3.2 and old 930 Turbos would also fit.
However, the 993 had a narrower boot lid from memory and this may mean fitting a 993RS spoiler will be problematic. I may be wrong, but I've never seen it done.
Maybe look to the aftermarket, and see what subtle spoilers are available by Ruf, Techart etc. They tend to go lairy not subtle tho'.

There was the option of a fixed rear whale-tail for the 964RS - this is why they have bumper extensions around the rear number plate compared to C2/C4 variants.
The bumper extensions mentioned are not extensions but merely a cut-away (lightweight?) middle section of a three piece C2/C4 bumper. A section is cut away, there are no extensions there. They used the same section on the 3.6 litre Turbo 2.
You are, however, right that the narrow body RS did once come with a fixed whale-tail – I have just remembered that the American 'RS' had this as a standard item. It did look pants tho', and it was never an option on English RSs, although I'm sure some got fitted to cup cars in later years when the regs lifted etc.
