Hi my 997.1 (C4S) is now at 75k and the gear box is stuck in 2nd. I'm told that the second gear syncro fork is a fairly common failure. Ok disappointing but fair enough. The (non specialist) garage where the car ended up is saying that the clutch HAS to be replaced at the same time - even though it's fairly new and was done 27k ago. They have not seen the clutch yet. If its on the way out then fair enough but should be less than halfway through its life?.

So the question is should I accept this or insist that the clutch is inspected and re installed if not showing sign of damage.
Any responses welcomed

If it’s stripped down a clutch replacement would be sensible surely!

Hi first thing to ask,has the gearstick gone loose,if yes then either one of the cables has snapped or fallen out of its support frame on side of box.

If clutch is only on 27k then why must it be changed.

I would take to someone that works on Porsche or at least has some knowledge.

The reason they want to change it is that you can’t come back after a while and say “my clutch has gone, it must be something you’ve done when you fixed the gearbox”
It seems a bit short sighted not to change the clutch when it’s already dismantled.

Thanks both appreciate it. Ive not got it back yet but turns out it is cable related so does not need stripping.
