GT2 Comfort v Clubsport
Discussion
a lot of people cheange the spec to suit - i.e. i had the comfort model, but put the buckets in. A friend of mine had the clubsport - but took the cage and extinguisher out to give more practicality.
I would say don't be dissuaded from either if you find the right car, because to change to one or the other spec will cost a couple of grand at most.

To elaborate:
No mechanical differences between CS and Comfort.
Clubsport has Nomex covered bucket seats, whereas Comfort has either Leather covered buckets or Leather Sports Seats.
Rollcage. Rear cage fitted at factory, front cage supplied in box for owner to bolt-in if required.
Fire extinguisher. Supplied in box, again owner decided if they want to bolt onto passenger seat floor.
Harnesses. 6 point harness fitted to drivers seat only.
Battery cut-off switch. Supplied under bonnet, but not attached.
I believe that only 12 of the 110 or so 996 GT2s sold in the UK were Clubsports, so they are very rare (although they were the same price new). I own one and my friend has one (which is currently advertised for sale on PH). There are many Comfort cars that have been fitted with roll-cages, most commonly the Porsche Tequipment cage, which is silver, not black like the Clubsport cage.

Re Guildford car. Bucket seats were a free option for Comfort cars, they just come covered in leather, instead of the Nomex fabric that Clubsport cars have.
Few GT2s Clubsports have the front cage or fire extinguisher fitted. I removed mine as they make the cabin a bit claustrophobic.

This one had the nomex covered bucket seats but no harness or rear roll cage...assume it could have been taken out

i have also been told (unverified however) that half of all gt2's sold in the UK have been written off.
i was trying to write mine off last night at bedford, but unfortunately the rubber band in the engine broke and the car came to a permanent stop in the pits.
clubsport in mine btw... didn't know they were that rare... thought it would be the preferred spec for the type of car.

This always find this rumour hard to believe. I know of an early GT2 that was crashed and re-shelled (a silver Y reg) and have seen a couple of smashed GT2s for salvage, but other than that I've never heard of dozens of 996 GT2 write-offs (though one made the paper a couple of years ago when the owner died).
Obviously many will ocurr that we are not aware of, as with all cars, but surely we would have seen the cars up for salvage, either as a whole or at least the parts (engine/gearbox etc).
Seems like an urban legend to me.

The car is clearly "not for beginners" - I know one LADY owner of a GT2 Clubsport that had crashed her quite heavily on three different occasions....
the asian lady who is always razzing hers down the embankment in the mornings?
Yep.
It's silver (or silver/very light blue). She's got some style (i.e a 993 Turbo 'S' in the garage too!)

(including mine when it was written off by one of their staff!)
Thats a story that needs expanding upon........
Guy,
Sent it up for a service, during the "after service test drive" the technician/pilot wrapped it into a barrier coming off a wet roundabout.
Upshot was a new GT3RS, which i am now very happy with - was going to get another GT2, but a) they couldn't find one i liked in good time, and b) the RS came at a very good price by way of an apology.
I think it wasn't so badly damaged that it'll never be back on the road at some point.
