I called my local OPC (Solihull) to book my car in for its service. They took down my information and offered to call me back to allow the person dealing with my car to call me to find a convenient date.

It seems I can no longer speak to my favoured service department to talk about my needs and prices/deals as the call came from a centralised call centre, namely Nottingham whereby I was told what the cost will be & why.

Truthfully I’m not a fan of this. It’s taken away the personal touch to the service I’ve had for many years and it feels like there’s no communication in regards to pricing and what my car requires as it’s certainly not doing the miles in comparison to its year if you know what I mean. Also the MOT which they do in house was always discounted to match local MOT centres, now it’s the maximum they can charge & that’s that.

Maybe it’s different on the day I take it in but given the call I’ve just had I’m considering phoning around to see if there’s a better deal/service centre.

Anyone else have the same thoughts or it’s now the norm?

I guess all the Sytner OPC’s are doing it as have experienced the same....definitely a step backwards from a customer service perspective.

I had it recently with local BMW dealer - I've always spoke to the same guy for years and now you can't speak to anyone you might want to, only a generic call centre with very limited technical understanding. Progress it is not!

I suppose some people won’t care less but glad I’m not the only one who thinks the customer relationship has been sacrificed.

I phoned Sutton Coldfield and Leicester OPCs in the last two weeks and spoke to someone at each, not centralised.

Having said that, the DP at Leics started at £1,400 for 6yr service whilst SC were at £775. Then DP realised he'd put spark plugs in unnecessarily so it reduced to £1,015. Then yesterday I phoned Leics and spoke to a service adviser to see what the 8yr on costs would be and was told the 6yr cost should have been £775, same as SC. Confused? Very.

Mine will be 6 yrs on a 991.1TTS currently 16k miles. Had it’s major 2 years prior with spark plugs, last year during MOT it had an oil/filter change (I do it every 12 months no matter what) This year it will be minor service but still quoted over £1k, similar to your Leics quote & £54 for the MOT.

Looks like I’ll call SC in the morning as they are not too much further away & maybe try Tewkesbury as I’m kind of in the middle of both OPC’s
