I have an allocation for a 718 GT4 but I’m waiting for a the PDK Option which I have been told will be towards the end of the production run(?). My spec cost is approx £92K

With all this time on my hands I’ve been looking around and a lovely 991 GTS for sale at JZM has caught my eye.

I’ve owned several 911’s over the years but never a 991.

I would appreciate your thoughts on this particular car as it seems a very nice deal?

Over rated imo GTS is just a spec upgrade, I bought one as a daily sold it after 2 months as my golf was a better car.

Ignore this. ☝🏻

I have one and also a 981 GT4, both great, but very different. Oh, and I also have a Golf R, which is no comparison to either of the Porsches.

Are you referring to the black GTS at JZM?. If so, nice spec, not the usual GTS spec but good enough. Not my preferred colour, but that’s all personal. The GTS has a turn of speed well beyond the GT4, both on road and track. The GTS is a very quick car and in real terms probably quicker than a GT3 on the road. Depends what you want to do with it. My GTS is more daily and the GT4 for fun and track days.

Now improbably a great time to drive a deal on a secondhand car ... not a great time to drive it though.

On the other hand, PDK was the specific requirement ... not yet available on the GT4 and new cars lose money faster than secondhand cars ....

So it could be good !

Very different cars with different design briefs, I'm always surprised by people cross shopping pairs like this.

Surely you want a GT car or you don't, and therefore that will dictate your best option?

You lose all credibility when you start saying a Golf R is a better car than a 991 GTS. Uppercut yourself.

Thanks, yes that’s the one. Not keen on Alcantara so I’m ok with the leather etc. It’s got everything I need and more plus I’ve missed the initial depreciation and new car premium which helps.. Love the looks of the GT3 but it’s a bit hard core for my needs an ability. My other concern is wether or not the GT4 will ever be available with PDK in view of current circumstances.? Who knows...

I do but PDK only.. for the reasons stated above so looking around and the 991 GTS is, for me, a viable alternative.

Congratulations on your car by the way - stunning...

Twinfans right whilst the GTS is a decent package it is clearly no GT Porsche and falls short in a few areas depending on your intended use.

The other thing to consider is do you want a 911 or a Cayman.

Wouldn't say the JZM GTS is particularly cheap for a 2017 2 owner car even with that mileage.

Re the 718 GT4 I am on for a PDK but the likelihood of one coming looks increasingly unlikely with the current situation and halting production and there could well be far fewer cars as a result. May take a manual slot by summer instead.

The other possibility of course is the 911 T which as a road car in the real world is as rapid as the 981 GT4 with admittedly less drama. I sold mine last summer and actually miss it as a package (manual basic spec T pack lightweight glass pcm dab thats it) but these are good value now much less money than the GTS 2018 Ts around £70k with minimal mileage. As the last of the narrow bodied Carreras and very low numbers for the UK these could acquire classic status in the medium term and I think residuals could be quite strong going forward.

Cheers Budweiser!

A GT4 is broadly similarly hardcore to a GT3 (ride height, splitter, wing, suspension firmness etc) so if you've ruled out a 991.1 GT3 I'd probably rule out a GT4.

The JZM GTS is very non-GT with the turbo engine, full leather, 18-ways etc. A very different proposition, so I'm really surprised you're comparing it to a GT4!

I didn’t mean to compare it as such, I appreciate they are different in many ways. Apart from anything else the GT3 is way above my budget and abilities as in truth the GT4 would be ability wise. To be fair that is probably the case for many owners of these cars? My thoughts were if the GT4 wasn’t available with PDK then I will definitely not pursue it. The options then are keep my Cayman GTS, which I love, or look at something else within my budget. My Cayman doesn’t have the GTS interior because I don’t like alcantara.

I also loved my CGTS but specifically wanted the more focused nature of the GT4. If you're not into that maybe a GTS of either model is more your thing?

By the way, you do know you can't fully delete alcantara on a GT4 don't you? Only on the steering wheel and gear knob...

I said no such thing.

I own a golf clubsport now with 36k miles on it, and I owned a 991 GTS to replace it, have you owned either ?

I don’t rate the Golf R.

Porsche pretty much is just badge buying these days on non Gt models.
Better cars to buy imo at £100k

AMG GTR or a 991 GTS

Lol come on , there is no contest bar badge snobbery.

I think Porsche make some very fine cars ... but they have treated many of the best private brand ambassadors abysmally.

There are some very fine cars out there ...almost too many to try all even when changing quite frequently.

I owned a Golf R32 and quite liked it, but it lasted four weeks. I own a Toyota Yaris GRMN and I love it ... all £25k's worth and it does get driven more that any of my other cars. I haven't the time to try all Golfs' ... but I'm very interested to read what others think of them smile

I have a real soft spot fr the MX5 against the Boxster, I'm trying a Lotus Exige 410 Sport against the GT4RS that Porsche wouldn't sell me and the McLaren 600LT that I didn't want to afford ...and I've built my own GT4RS smile

There are no right or wrongs ... just shared experiences ... in places like this ...
