Brembo Floating Disc for GT3
Discussion
I am going to replace the front cross drilled discs on my GT3 MKII due to the constant cracking. The problem i have heard with the grooved floating Brembo discs from Parr is that they rattle a lot until they get upto operating temperature. Which I assume will only happen on track and not on the road.
How annoying is the rattling?
Also why floating - are the GT3 MKII discs prone to warping on track? If not, why not buy Brembo, AP or Alcon non floating grooved discs and do away with the rattling?
Thanks,
Mark

Mark
Just had the Brembos fitted on my Mk2. They do rattle a lot, but I don't find it too bad - not over the rest of the noise the car makes!
I can get the disks up to temperature on the road with just a couple of 70mph medium to hard stops, and after that they seem to keep their temperature and the rattling more or less goes away.
I suspect on long motorway journeys, though, with little use of the brakes (ie, not the M25!) the rattle would return.
Not technically proficient enough to confidently answer part 2 - I think is has something to do with the fact that floating discs have less contact with wheel /hub assembly hence less heat soak transfer. Ready to stand corrected!

Mark,
My Alcons don't rattle at all, and don't think that the Brembos are bad either.
The reason for floating is so that the little bit of movement of the disc can allow perfect alignment to the pad at all times, thus giving optimum disc/pad contact at all times.
They should give nearly twice the life of standard discs as they don't crack before they wear thin.
