Hi All

I hope you are all safe and sound in these times..

I'm about to go on a 1000Km drive to get home to some family in Europe who has unfortunately fallen ill.

For the drive i'll be taking my 2010 porsche Panamera 4S With around 80K miles on it. The car is in good shape in general but I'm not sure if it actually has a rought idle, and what might be the cause?

I have included a video of the RPM from the cabin and under the bonnet.

Cabin:

In addition, I think I hear a bit of "rattling" in the exhaust when changing gears at around 1500-2000RPM at low speeds.

I hope you can help before I embark on my trip,

Thanks

V8 dfi engines can get a bit lumpy at idle with higher mileage - a fresh set of plugs and a check on the ignition coils wouldn't hurt but given the circumstances I reckon you'll have to give it a go as is. Generally before I look into rough idle issues I would run the car at high revs low load for 50 or so miles to try and clear out any short journey/repetitive cold start previous use.

600+miles is a good trip; if you can maintain a fair pace do the motorway bits in 'Manual' and one or two gears lower than the car would normally default to - like getting a diesel dpf cleared out after a lot of short runs. If the idle is smoother at the end of the trip; you are set.

Thank you very much for the response! I'll do just that when I set off! I might take it to a garage to have the exhaust looked at after the trip just in case smile

Tried cleaning the MAF and throttle body?

Also these are direct-injection engines, so perhaps the valves are coking up a bit?
