Porsche insurance quotes - recent premium rise?
Discussion
Just wondered if anyone has experienced the same ramp up this year
2017 Macan turbo of value £45k, SW London
49 year old, clean license, 22 years NCB
(the expensive bit) 38 year old missus, 3 years on the road, one £2k claim fully recovered (cabbie took her wing mirror off)
Last year £900 with elephant
This year £1340 after complaining and knocking them down a bit
I got it down to £1200 by adding a 250 vol excess
One years has pased of claim free motoring (esp important for missus) but premium up 50% !!
With Covid19 their motor claims must be way lower (I am getting a £25 refund - woohoo) so is this just profiteering to recover covid19 business / other insurance claims?
I have tried 3 comparison sites but happy to hear any other insurer suggestions if your age/location are similar to mine.

Is that through a comparison site? My GT4 insurance is £150+ less than last year after running comparisons.
I believe you can input a large vol excess to get it down significantly and then take out insurance on the excess payment for a nominal fee. The combined amount should be less overall. Never done it but I know someone who did for his GT3RS

that is my renewal trhough elephant which i negotiated down a bitI couldn't beat it via confused, comparethemarket or moneysupermarket - so might just be a spike in claims at my postcode. Just wnated to check as I was looking forward to a bit of a drop given OH has 50% more driving experience!

Interesting, will google this, might try upping the vol excess again as going from 0 to 250 dropped 150 of premium which was a bit of a no-brainerAdam B said:

My insurance also went through the roof this year and took some hard work to get it back down to something less eye watering via lots of ball ache shopping around and price matching.....
Annoyingly my m140i is nearly twice the price of my 981 GTS, which really pisses me off. It’s modified, but I’ve had modded m-lites for 5 years now and suddenly the premiums have doubled :-(

That will be because most modded M Lites are now in the hands of the kind of idiots that watch LLF etc ..... TRLDeals and Joe Achilles doing a great promo job to the young entrepreneurial hustler crowd that have moved on from the RS3's ...Annoyingly my m140i is nearly twice the price of my 981 GTS, which really pisses me off. Premiums have definitely gone up this year but I suspect next year will be worse.
Regards the current situation, insurers are a very long way off getting any claims data that they can use to set premiums so I wouldn't expect that to filter down to premiums this year. That 'might' soften the blow of rising premiums over the next few years.

Yep, but quite how the yoof can afford the modified insurance is beyond me..... and maybe that’s also part of the problem Mines down about 20%.
ML350 / SLK280 / AM V8V (modified)
All in about £1150, (£500 + £250 excess), I’m 31, 8 years NCB mirrored, wife is 26 3 years NCB.
North Wales, don’t hear much of car theft, a lot of quad / farm stuff though.
I’d guess there have been a lot of thefts in your area driving prices up.

Rather ignorant and arrogant response when I am trying to help. If people outside of London are also seeing rises it would suggest the market rates are up, if they are not it would suggest a local issue, so I’d say it is quite relevant to what you are seeing.
I found the NFU and LV to be expensive, LV especially, 30-40% higher.
By the way where I live isn’t rural but I can afford a house with a drive and garage, maybe that’s why my quotes are lower

Sorry you took it that way, I thanked you for replying with the information on change.
I was trying to save people the effort and typing all their details as obviously they will differ with circumstances.
It’s the up or down X% that is more comparable I thought. The info in LV and NFU also helpful thanks.
You mentioned farms hence assumed rural, I envy your drive

Yes perhaps
Less interested in what people are quoted as rural Wales vs parked on streets of London are chalk and cheese, but changes in premium is interesting thanks
I have been recommended trying a few that are not on comparison sites like LV, NFU and Privilege
Nfu can be very cheap.I was paying 400/year for the gt4 in a postal area many wouldn’t cover .Less interested in what people are quoted as rural Wales vs parked on streets of London are chalk and cheese, but changes in premium is interesting thanks

Insurance premiums (at the aggregate level) have risen YoY. Granted not 20% but they have definitely risen. This is Q1, so not factoring in coronvirus.
Personal circumstances are not all that impacts the pricing. Other factors like your postcode (or wider area) may have seen an increase in crime, the price of parts may have increased or labour (currency fluctuations etc). Perhaps insurers are now adding a premium to cover their overheads or what they think might be further volatility (and cost) on their side.
It's a common misconception that another year's claim-free motoring means a cheaper premium on renewal. The only way to know if you're getting the best price is to shop around.
