Hello.

I am looking at most likely a 996 or possibly poverty end of 997 cab which I will probably be purchasing towards the end of this year.

I have just read through the bore score/ IMS thread and noticed that, early in the thread, Baz was discussing the options for making his Porsche drive ‘softer’ in order to smooth the ride for his wife.

I am after specific advice about if it is possible to up the level of comfort of these cars in some way? I understand that switching off PASM etc can be done but I am thinking more about the difference that certain seats / suspension upgrades / tyre and wheel choices could make?

I am not interested in caning the car or tracking it and I am also well aware that there are more comfortable GT type cars like a C Class that would be more comfortable out of the gate.

However, if anyone has any ideas around this or can point me to a previous thread (I did search) I would be very grateful.

Thanks

Have you driven any?
I was very surprised how comfortable the base suspension is on a 996. quite plush actually.

I would avoid all the lower sport suspension options if comfort is your focus of course.

Base 996 C2 cab on 17's would be the softest choice as standard (the revvy 3.4 is smooth low down and quite muted without sports exhaust. C4 - all wheel drive system - adds weight and the larger tyre choices add noise and a heavier 'feel'. At the other end of the scale (discounting turbo/GT) a 997.1 C4S cabriolet Tiptronic with optional sports exhaust can be the most wearing on a run....

OK thanks both - really helpful.

Unfortunately I am not in the position to drive one of these yet but I will do when I get back to U.K. in the summer. I have asked a local indie if I can pay to have a morning in something they have in stock just so I (and my wife) can get a feel for the car.

Just finished watching something on YouTube that showed a dude converting a Karmann Ghia to E.V.😍. That may be a long term plan if I get the first bit done and actually find a car I like in the price range I have.

Again, thanks for advice.

My experience with a C4 997 cab inc PASM is that it rode slightly softer than a standard C2 coupe with the PASM light off and harder than the C2 with PASM light on, ie button pressed.
We did 10s of 1000s of miles in ours and never was the ride a concern.
You need to try one.
