cant believe how good my 3.2 carrera is.
Discussion
just picked up my 1989 3.2 form storage.stunning. i advise all porsche drivers to drive something else from time to time just to experience the moment you get back in the thing...was told when i bought it not to get too attached as there will always be the desire to move up the porsche ladder. not me. i think this is the one....
I agree about taking a break and going back.
As I keep my car at the Ring I get that reunion experience every month or so - it's a real treat to see it again - it makes the car so special.
I think I'd be less in awe if I drove it every day.
I'm very lucky - my car is only used at one of the only places in the world where it can used properly and it gets no other mileage.

Congratulations!
As with almost any long production run of a classic car, there are some "sweet" spots of the range and some perhaps "not-so-sweet" spots. The 3.2 911 Carrera is certainly a "sweet spot" to my mind. It's a great all rounder, excellent fuel economy, great performance, more charismatic sound, compared to the later sullied models- and classic period looks.
What I like about the 3.2 litre 911s is that they never had catalysts fitted, which means they run lean on part load operation and are less complicated, but they also have DME which means their fueling and ignition is better optimised compared (with a high Compression ratio) to say, a 3.0 SC on K Jetronic
The 993 is another one to my mind, although some say the 993tt is a bit OTT. I don't think I'll ever have the need to "trade up" from my 993

thanks chaps....i think the whole absence makes the heart grow fonder thing works with cars exactly as it does with women...the things are very similar in fact....can be expensive, great fun when they are running well...but you can get a bit used to them and take em for granted if over-exposed...

I think most women are more like Italian cars, not German stuff ![]()
All except for Jonna of course...
Someone once said that a Porsche is like a beautiful wife whereas a Ferrari is like a mistress - i.e. the Porsche is for keeping whereas the Ferraris is a temptation which can not last.
My 3.2 is the best car I've ever owned - I use it everyday and it makes me smile everyday. Definitely don't feel the need to lock it away to enhance the experience although keeping one at the Ring just for fun does sound like a blast.

Just a regular 3.2 would be dandy!
In which case £16k for a tip top one and then downwards to around £13.5k. That's for a Coupe. Targas and cabs are around £12k to £14.5k.
You can go either side of these figures but more expensive is generally a rip off unless it's concourse and with low miles and cheaper is likely to land you in trouble although if you could find a genuine car but with a bad history you might save a bit but then you'd lose it when you came to sell.
All current prices of course and all IMHO.
animal, i got mine last year, 1989 slate grey with black leather. 114000m . from eporsch. probably top dollar paid...£14,000. I put 7k on it in 3 months...hence let it have a rest recently. FANTASTIC CAR.....things i like: making it go round corners quickly/noise/looks/seats,so supportive/lots of waves from other porsche owners/thinking about how it works while i am driving along/the extra stability i found when put whale tail on it(people said i wouldnt notice it,i DO)/the way the WHOLE car changes at very high rev's/the fact that it doesnt break at very high rev's/the fact its a lot easier to own than last quick car-delta integrale.
BAD POINTS.... girlfreind does not like it...i can live with this...WORTH EVERY PENNY......

14k seems quite a fair price for an 89 coupe from a dealer. I am in the process looking at the moment and there seems to be a few around the 18k mark with various dealers. Its good to hear favorable reports about eporsche. I met Roly Baldwin a while back when I was looking at a 964. Lovely bloke who seems geniunely passionate about the cars and no I'm not related to him.
If you think a standard 3.2 is good (and it is), try a Club Sport if you have not already done so.
On a purely objective basis they are not THAT much better (cost approx twice as much as a standard 3.2) but there's no depreciation, less to go wrong so lower running costs & they sound, go, stop & handle better.
Won't be selling mine any time soon.
Hoping to go to the do at Reading on Sunday so maybe see you there?
