My first topic in the Boxster forum, hello one and all. Just a couple of daft little questions.

Firstly, whats the waiting list/delivery time for a new Boxster S at the moment, and how long have some of you lot waited?

Secondly, has anyone here gone for the factory collection option? Would just like some thoughts on what it was like, is it worth doing, to me it seems like a perfect way to get to know your new car, a nice long drive home :) Just let me know how it was, what happened etc etc.

If you go for the factory collection option, does it make you get the car slightly quicker?

No one ever done the factory collection then? I did a search and found one reference, but it was fairly brief. Still sounds like a worth while trip though!

you could try e-mailing Craig from here as he did it with his GT3

for £800+ I'd rather stick an extra option on my motor

I think I saw his post about it somewhere, thought about emailing and decide against bothering someone directly

Its a fair bit of money, but as an experience that you don't get to recreate very often, it sounds like a must have option, picking up a new car is always memorable anyway, but this would surely just top it off nicely.

Factory collection is fantastic by all accounts - think i'll have a go on my next one. I'm guessing that being in the Boxster forum, you're looking at picking up a Boxster... I doubt it'll affect lead times as most Boxsters are built in Finland - and the 'Factory' collection would be done in Zuffenhausen, Stuttgart - the car needs to be shipped to Stuttgart rather than to UK.

I've been given a build date of early Jan '06 for a 2.7 for delivery late Jan. '06. However I'm informed that normal delivery would have been March. I can get bumped up the list a couple of months, but I'm probably going to get one with a few miles on it now.

I can only recommend the factory collection - did that myself when I picked up my boxster 3 years ago: You are treated to a nice lunch on the top floor of the factory with a magnificent view over the grounds, get a tour of the factory (no guarantees though on some areas being off limits due to prototypes shuffling about) and you get treated to a picture of yourself & your new P&J. Plus you can always squeeze in a visit to the museum which is on the grounds of the factory (new museum just started construction, will take a while to complete).

Thankyou for the last three replies, yes, its a Boxster that my good old father is wanting to pick up. Boxsters are made in Finland eh? Didn't know that.

Sounds like a great little trip, I'm very much looking forward to the trip, don't get to spend much time back home anymore so this will be a nice little father and son roadtrip.
