... so obsessed with Lotus?
I can't remember a single thread about what Lotus might be up to without a contribution comparing them unfavourably with Porsche. Even in the recent thread about something as mundane as car finance up pops a remark about the pricing policy of Porches.
Dare to mention an Evora and it won't be long before you see a flurry of comments claiming that a Cayman or a 911 is better because of some obscure reason.
Do they realise that Lotus is living rent free inside their head but Porsche barely even registers in the thoughts of a Lotus owner?
Are Porsche owners fixated on any other marque or do they just feel threatened by Lotus?

As I posted on the Lotus finance thread, their marketing and 25% discounts is totally wrong, it is what it is.
I will own another Lotus within 18 months but one with a 25% discount.

Lotus people hate each other so much there are 4 owners clubs at every event !!! I fine that all very odd.

Getting back into a Porsche was all I could think about last time I owned a Lotus. Every journey in the Lotus (50% of which was back to the dealers, seriously.) felt like another shake-down test for the factory. It went well enough, the brakes were bloody fantastic, and it was an occasion, but the driving experience was marred by an overall feeling of driving something that felt like I'd thrown it together in my garage, and the ownership experience was utterly dire. I lost sleep, and quite a bit of hair.Perhaps there are lot's of Lotus owners thinking about Porsche's, but they dare not admit it to you..
I think a lot of people now buy an Elise as an entry sportcar and then move on to a Porsche.
I went 205 GTI, Mk1 MX5, Elise and then into Porsche with a Caterham on the side.
The Elise was a great fun car although not as raw as the Caterham and not as well built as a Porsche.
Great cars, but I'd probably put another Caterham in the garage or a 987 Spyder for a pure weekend car.

Lotus is indeed living inside my head rent free cos I invited it in. If my 996 is ULEZ'd then I'd maybe like to end up inside an Evora.
I'm a car enthusiast, not a marque enthusiast!

The Porsche v Lotus threads always make me smile with the predictable content. I changed my Elise S2 for a 918 PDK because I'm old and arthritic and could no longer get out of the Elise due to the high sill. I find the Boxster great for comfortable long journeys but dear me it's a big, wide, heavy thing for a two seater. If I was fit enough I'd be back in an Elise tomorrow. I miss the responsive steering and nimble handling. I really don't think the cars are comparable generally. Regarding Lotus owners thinking about Porsches, it certainly doesn't apply to our local Lotus owners club.Perhaps there are lot's of Lotus owners thinking about Porsche's, but they dare not admit it to you..

that's one hell of an upgrade, what you will note is most ex Lotus owners don't a have a clue about model names :-)
I think a lot of people move from Lotus to Porsche when they get a bit older and want something more comfortable and usable.
I've had Lotuses and currently have Porsches. I'll probably have a Lotus again at some point when I have space. The Porsches are better at being used as all-round cars. The Lotuses are better as pure sports cars. *shrug*

I own a 964. So I qualify for this thread.
Last year, as a result of winning an auction at our son's school's fund raising dinner, Mrs B. and I were lucky enough to be given a personal guided tour through the Lotus factory. Fascinating it was too.
The tour took two hours and we saw much of what was going on. The new extension had not been completed and there were a couple of spaces we were not allowed to see. Other than that we went absolutely everywhere.
As we were driving away Mrs B, who isn't too interested in cars said,
"Lotus don't ACTUALLY make anything, do they? Nothing is made in house. They just bolt other people's stuff together."

I've got a 718 cayman S. Its a great car and its my daily.
I used to have an Elise and I loved it far more than I do my Porsche, but it could never be a daily for me.
I have a westfield which is more exciting to drive than either up to the legal limit and worse than both above that.
I am still tempted by an Evora though.
I've met very friendly Lotus and porsche owners, Ive been ignored by Lotus and Porsche owners
I could be wrong but I think the OP may have a chip on his shoulder
