1976 911S importing from New Hampshire to (old)Hampshire UK!
Discussion
I have found a tatty but sound looking '76 911S, it is located in USA and being sold by a private vendor, there are plenty of photos and it has a clean New Hampshire title. I am happy with the general communications and what I can see, they price is also 'realistic'.
I have a cost for full door to door shipping from a reputable UK import specialist including:
Inland trucking to port
container shipment
marine insurance
UK port fee and container unloading
Collection from UK port to UK home address
DVLA first reg
vintage number plates
import customs and reg fees
Total £2,2k
I will then need to add 5% on purchase or car and container shipping element.
I have previously imported a Chevy Nova however the vendor was a small dealer so slightly less risky because I was able to check references.
My plan would be for the vendor to take the 911 to a local specialist of my choosing (I have found one and contacted them) so they can inspect the car and paperwork. All being well I will pay the vendor and they will leave the car and paperwork with the specialist who will store the car for a few days until the transport arrives.
Anything obvious I have overlooked or any advice?

My only thought is that it would need to net out at a very good price to be a worthwhile exercise.
An ex-US 2.7S is never going to be highly desirable.
Pretty, maybe, but they can all cost a LOT of money when they need work, and NH is definitely not a ‘dry State’.
But good luck whatever you decide.

The car is $20k, body is heavy patina (which is what I want) and mechanical overhaul (fuel systems, brakes, sus and gearbox rebuild)
The shipping is £2.2k so the grand total is £20k sterling to my door.
I am aware they are expensive to restore but I hope it will be a driver / rolling resto. I don't intend to make it pretty I like the rat look and have a heated garage so it shouldn't degrade too quickly. I like the 1976 model (it was the year I was born!) and still has some of the early model features and chrome trim.
It doesn't look like it has east coast rot and the amount of sun burn on it would suggest it was originally a dry state car.
I have plenty more questions to ask and the one about the original state is a useful one.
