Looking for 993/996 in South Africa ...
Discussion
Hi,
I was in Durban a few months back, and was amazed @ the prices for new and used Porsches.
There's an article in this months 911 & Porsche world about Porsche Centre South Africa, might be worth contacting them (+27 11 686 9000 or www.porsche.co.za)or how about contacting club members, who I'm sure will know of any good cars for sale.
Try these contacts pcsa@icon.co.za or gdutoit@saol.com
Good luck

Thanks ... reason for high prices is due to about 80% tax being charged on foreign cars ...
Ja, that and our consumers' inability to notice/care/act when completely and utterly robbed by cartels. To wit - the recent settlement between manufacturers and the DTI (I think it was) who won a case of price fixing against them. Also witness MTN/Vodacom/Cell-C absolutely ripping us off for every little thing, and the other cartel - the banks - to whom we pay almost as much as to our beloved Receiver
( And let's not even start on about Telkom... Ons is lekker geroof hier in SA

You do have amazing banks in SA ... took me over 6 months to open an account there... only to find it closed when I cam back to SA ... thanks Nedbank!
I am moving permanetly in August ... so I need a car and anything which is high end is absolutely rodiculous in price ... I went to see Investmentcars and they had nothing decent below R700,000 ... Porsche had nothing below R895k ... madness. Now looking for a SL55AMG as they are made in SA ... but that's mad price as well.

Ja, you'd think that because a particular vehicle was made here & therefore escaped import duties it would be available at a more reasonable price. You'd be wrong more often than not
Ciao

There's a dealer called Carrera Motors in Johannesburg that specialises in 60's cars but occaisionally has a 993 on the floor - may be worth a try. I bought and sold through them when I lived in SA and they were pretty good (should have bought a 356C from them, brought it to the UK and made a packet!)
