PCM 3.1 Update
Discussion
Hi,
i have PCM 3.1 in my 2012 991 and i want to update it to the latest version. Currently it's version 3,42
I have seen on Ebay that you can buy the discs with 2018 maps and get the activation code for £99.
has anyone done this and if so did it work as planned , or am i likely to just mess up the system if i don't take it to an OPC for the work to be done?
thanks,
Kagey.

I did it on my 2015 PCM3.1 with that 'kit'. Worked a treat. Takes a couple of hours but follow the instructions as given and you can't go wrong.i have PCM 3.1 in my 2012 991 and i want to update it to the latest version. Currently it's version 3,42

Do you need to go to an OPC to have the activation code 'activated'?
James
No the activation 'code' comes on a USB but it is specific to your VIN which you need to tell them so they can send you the correct code. The firmware update and maps come on a series of disks. At £99 it's near a third of OPC costs. The system is not great but I could just stomach £99 to upgrade it. Spending near £300 makes no sense James
How easy is the Joying box to fit? Most places seem to quote £500+ supply for the Car Play add-in and c£250 to install

I think Auto Amateur has a YouTube video up showing how to fit it. How easy is the Joying box to fit? Most places seem to quote £500+ supply for the Car Play add-in and c£250 to install

I managed to buy mine used for £120, took me about 3-4hrs to fit following the video referred to below. A handy person could do it in an hour I would have thought! How easy is the Joying box to fit? Most places seem to quote £500+ supply for the Car Play add-in and c£250 to install
Frances, you get much more on the POI menu - telephone numbers come up of restaurants/hotels etc.
I think the graphics are better , with much more detail
Where i live there lots of new roads and now the stanav knows them.
Also i can get satelite view for the maps now and the choice of 4 diff views for the navigation- not sure i could before. So just small changes , but more modern looking.

I fitted it last night and gotta say i'm very impressed. took me about 90 minutes to load the discs after updating the firmware from the usb. Well worth £99. t
Yep no drama with me either. There's always a workaround. Now if Porsche would follow suit and let you buy the update for DIY install rather than charging the excessive labour/install cost for them to do it..................... kagey said:

Sounds like a worthwhile upgrade. Cheers. I think the graphics are better , with much more detail
