I love that Porsche have put a 6cyl NA engine back in the "regular" Boxster/Cayman with the GTS4.0 (apologies I don't know the engine's official designation). I believe they were clear when they put it in the GT4/Spyder that they'll have to use the engine in more applications to make it financially viable.

Well, what else would you like to see them do with that engine?

For me, I think it would be amazing to put it in a new 911 Carrera T. Interestingly it has a little more peak power than the standard Carrera engine (400 vs. 385 PS), but not as much as the Carrera S (450 PS), but I assume would be a little slower than a Carrera due to the power and torque curves of a turbo engine vs an NA.

As such, it could be perfect in a Carrera T. It won't be as fast on paper as a Carrera, but would be the "driver's choice".

I'd love them (well, another offshoot of their parent company) to put it in an Audi A1 with 4WD and a manual gearbox and proper handbrake.

As much as I admire them for putting the 4.0 in the 718 GTS I think they should create a new 718 T with the same 4.0 engine but stripped out along the lines of a clubsport cayman (shorter gears, passive shocks, huge weight reduction etc etc)

How about a Cayman R, somewhere between the Gts and Gt4 with above but no wing!
And bring back the folding buckets!

Use it to make a Boxster Soeedster - lightweight, stripped out - buckets, hand cranked windows, manual top (not the complicated Spyder version), no stereo, air con etc. A real back to basicS rocket!

They are surely going to put it in a 911 at some point. Perhaps the T. Seems a no brainer

Hand cranked windows now weigh more than leccy ones.

Just saying wink

Put a detuned version in the Boxster/Cayman S and call it Le Man edition. I hear the 4 pot turbo 718s haven't sold so well. Really not that surprising. They should modify modify the Macan platform into a hatchback and put the four pot turbo petrols in those. Can pitch it at as a competitor to the AMG A45S, Audi RS3. Apparently AMG are building a competitor to the Boxster/Cayman. Porsche should put out a hyper hatch...

I don’t think they need to go to the expense....T sold well enough with the 3.0 Turbo engine in it last time. Would be great but don’t see it happening;

Wrong! There are some very vocal posters on here who will take any opportunity to bash the four however that is not reflective of reality. Nothing like perpetuating an internet myth.

Tuned 2.5 would probably lay waste to one of these anyway, and with DPFs you don’t really even get the soundtrack some find so ‘essential’. I just prefer my cars to go fast smile.

what don't you agree with ?

This gear box since 2013 is old hat (it might be even from 2008), it's ratio's are way too long and it torque limited for the 4.0l engine so no point have 4.0l then !!!

the new 4.0l would come alive with it's real torque and 10mph knocked off each gear.

The PDK cars will fly, it's going to be interesting to see PDK vs manuals this time.

It depends on the cut-off used. 981s were delivered up to summer 2016, 718s started late 2016. So if they're calendar year you need to split the 2016 figures in half(?) and therefore 981s outsold 718s.

Why knock it rather than celebrate it. Different people have different styles and some want manual and some want PDK.

First 718 deliveries were in the Spring, not late 2016, i.e. when the market usually picks up. We will never have the exact overlap, however allocating half of the launch year sales to the old model will clearly lead you to an incorrect conclusion.. Is fairly clear most 2016 deliveries were 718s.
