What are the pros/cons of either of these cars? Would you expect less 'hassle' (clutch, DMF) with a tiptronic? Are targas actually as bad as they're made out to be, I saw a very nice looking grey targa at the FOS yesterday. I suppose as long as you have decent seals on the roof panel there's no problem?
Tiptronic is possibly slightly slower to 60, but is it that much of a big deal once you're rolling....

"964 tiptronic targa" - possibly the cheapest variant - if it's white and lhd then also add the words "and the most unpopular".

I just don't think Porsche got it right with the tiptronic in the early days - I'm yet to be convinced they have got it right even now.

Here's my list

Pros
Open top motoring (better to hear that flat 6 wail)
No electrics on the roof (ie less to go wrong)
More roll over protection compared to convertible
Less wind buffeting compared to convertible
Glass rear screen and wiper (plastic on convertible)

Cons
Need to get roof re-covered now and then
Potential for water leaks (fixable)
Potential for bad wind noise with roof in place (fixable)
Some chassis wobble over bad roads, less so with roof in place

Coupes also have potential problems with water leaks and sunroof mechanism.

A targa tip definetely isn't the 'purist' choice but as a result the prices should around 2k in your favour compared to say, a manual C2 Coupe, with everything else being equal (ie history and condition).
