Hi everyone.
First time poster on the forum.
I have purchased a 2008 997 C2S and I am waiting to collect. This particular car has had PASM deleted when originally purchased and has standard Carrera suspension. Unfortunately couldn't do a test drive as purchased from RSJ sports cars in Slough. Any thoughts on what the ride might be like. Moot point I know as deposit paid but just interested to hear opinions.
Thanks
M

RSJ still not allowing drives, jokers. suprises they sell cars, I would not buy one with out driving a car

ride height will look like a tractor btw.

Advantages are you can fit a set of Ohlins and not worry about PASM modules :-), so maybe a win there.

Are you sure this it what it is? Could the S be specified with base carrera suspension? It could have the sports suspension which is lower and harsh on the road (so I understand).

Either way, as has already been said, you can fit after-market coilovers.

Thanks Gents
I have seen the car and it sits really well. To be honest been really impressed with Joel and the team. Time will tell. Complete newbie to Porsche World so didn't know C2S had PASM as standard, doh...

RSJ will allow drives if you're serious.

The issue is often how they get it out of the showroom.

The non-test drive may be due to COVID restrictions. How do you do a socially distanced test drive? biggrin

Is your car the atlas grey with carbon steering wheel? If so, it looks like it might have the sports suspension?

Had two in the last couple of weeks - 997 C2S in Somerset, and a 997 C2 in Sussex. In both cases the dealer photocopied my driving licence, put a trade plate on the car, and gave me the keys and some suggestions on decent roads in the area.

Bought the C2, subject to PPI this week.

To be fair I have had a dealer do the same some years ago.

I can imagine many dealers don't want to just handover the keys and let punters do an unassisted test drive.

nope.

but his cars are good if you want a silver automatic, he stands by what he sells, maybe that's why he don't get involved in manuals, GT or colours these days.
And has just found a small market which works for him.

In the past he used to sell interesting cars, the last 10 years it's just been silver/grey/black Automatics for 99% stock ! and that's not even a joke.

That's the one. If it does have sports suspension all the better. Joel mentioned it was 10mm lower than PASM but didn't mention sports suspension.

Looks like I have the exception - a manual C2S. It is grey though...

Yep, that is sports suspension. The car will also have a LSD.

I hope you don't find it too crashy for road use, because sports mode on a PASM equipped car is bloody awful (I've had one)!!

Did some reading around it since your post last night and the consensus is not as firm a ride as PASM in sport mode and pretty well balanced. It may be punters with sports suspension justifying their decision - I will let you know....

Welcome to 997 ownership OP. Love/hate with mine but can never get around selling it. Love the noise, the feel of it and the way it looks. They're also very practical cars. I'm sure the sports suspension will be fine, I can't imagine it'd be like the sports setting with PASM which isn't useable on the road. It'll be fun!

Collection day can't come soon enough tbh. As for the ride, as long as I make it home and my fillings haven't all rattled loose I'm sure I'll be happy!

Sport suspension is fine. I’d much prefer that to PASM which adds an unwanted layer of disconnection for me. I hate it with a passion. If you are unhappy with the damping control just change to a better quality damper and enjoy. Without PASM You will enjoy a far more analog driving experience

Thanks Steve, having read a number of forums I am quite pleased to not have PASM. It is a matter of opinion I suppose as some love it. Just the potential worry of the dreaded bore scoring now but have the RSJ warranty that gives some peace of mind. Discussion for another thread I suppose!!

Don't let the worry of bore scoring spoil your ownership experience, it is a very low percentage of cars that are affected, you just hear more bad news stories than good.

Hi Everyone,
Quick update. Collected the car yesterday, really impressed with the ride on the way home, not crashy at all in my opinion. Not driven a pasm equipped car so can't compare but very happy. Grinned all the way home! Big thanks to Joel and the team at RSJ Sports Cars in Slough, excellent handover with great advice on oil, coolant levels, warm up procedure etc etc and the car was prepared beautifully.
