944 Guys, Is This Right?
Discussion
Spotted this on eBay (where else?) and started wondering - is this a bodge job?
944s (as far as I know) were only produced in cabriolet form when the S2 came out. Is this car a special?
It's rather cheap if it's a genuine vehicle!

Regarding your original question I think you are right, the cabriolet only in S2 form, 1989 on, see here:

I have one of both, a 1984 944 and a 1990 S2 Cabriolet, and you can see the windshield on the Ebay car is far too tall and long. Seeing that convertible top in the "up position" would be a chuckle. Since the 944 rigidity is due to the roof structure making a significant contribution, I'd avoid that one like the plague.
The cabriolets by the way, were "also" cut down from a coupe, but by professionals who also reinforced the undercarriage.

doesnt make a differance.
Any monkey can set up shop and do whatever they want, dont make it right.
A "offical" main dealer knows the car and has liabilities, for 1000's of cars..
heres a list of things that are differant from an S2 cab and a coupe (the things they did)
1> chop the roof (duh!)
2> Front windscreen, shorter and raked back
3> Front windscreen acts as a rollbar
4> front doors, internals have a big
off roll bar welded in
4> front doors, the windows are differnt they have a quarter light this adds extra strength also acts as a seal
5> Underbody has a second skin
6> Damper on drivers side (boot) to add stiffness
7> additional stiffening and strengthening through out the body
(Ever wonder why a cab is a lot more HEAVIER than a coupe')
Its not a chop job that Porsche did, Porsche needed to get approval, and crash test the thing for approval, they also needed to proove the car is safe by Math and design.
